Investment Banking in San Diego?
Hi, I was wondering if there are any good investment banking jobs/opportunities in San Diego? - My plan is to get my MBA and start as an associate.
Do they pay as much?
(I know only mid-cap and bulge brackets pay well, is that a rule of thumb? or are there places in San Diego that are awesome to work for and pay well?)
Thanks.
Would the Mid-Market firms be competitive in pay? Is it possible to land a job at one of these?

Does anyone know of any larger investment banks in San Diego worth breaking into?
I wish, San Diego is one of my favorite cities.
There are no real banks in San Diego, if there were they would be over run. There are a few PE shops (read rich guys who buy things), but that is pretty much it.
the only thing close and reputable is Relational Investors... it's a kick ass firm if you can get in...
It's not necessarily an investment bank but look into Bainbridge. It is a consulting firm but they do some capital advisory work with private equity companies.
Founded by the Germans in 1904, they named it "San Diego." Which of course in German means, "A Whale's Vagina."
No investment banks, I've looked everywhere. PM and I'll give you what I have.
San Diego BB Offices? (Originally Posted: 01/14/2007)
I know ML and UBS have offices, but am admittedly very clueless. Is San Diego just a bad place to be if you are considering starting in i-banking?
Also, which banks are the biggest players in SD?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I think its about which group you want to go to. From what I have been told, most of the groups there are hot with TMT for all the BB's.
I think it has to be tough - I mean it is much less of an economic center than SF or LA...
Thanks very much for the responses. I'm a total newbie, but my sense is that you're right, which disappoints me since I like San Diego a lot.
When I see the associate bonus figures published in, i.e., the NY Times, do those figures also apply to associates in the branch offices such as San Diego?
Do those offices even have associates?
Your help, and patience, is very much appreciated.
I was visiting some family in SD and saw where some of the offices were. They were in an eerie small town, built just for offices. It was the weekend and all of its wide roads were deserted and it gave me the creeps. Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but just the location of those offices, didn't give me much hope
Sorry bud, No bulge has an office in SD.
The signs salam saw were brokerage.
yeah i was wondering about that too BBM&A...
I've never heard of a banking office in SD, but assumed i was wrong...
You're going to find offices in SF/MP and LA, but thats it for Cali...
This is very helpful, thanks a lot.
