Hello fellow monkeys
I'm looking for management consulting firms that deal with distressed companies,
any ideas do traditional MBB have special divisions for that kind of companies?
thanks

There are a few national firms that do this kind of work, Alvarez & marsal, Alix Partners, Mesirow (until recently) that do large bankruptcy work. and there are a number of boutiques that serve the middle market that are regional in nature. What are you looking for? I work in the industry currently. There is a big difference in the focus of many firms, as some are more turnaround related and some do more end of life (bankruptcy liquidation).
Alvarez & Marshall comes to mind, a very well-known boutique that operates in that space.
Seconded on Alvarez being a strong firm in the space along with AlixPartners, followed by FTI Consulting.
PS - quick note, its Alvarez & Marsal (just for the forum's edification).
I'm looking for the ones that deals with turnaround (POR, Priority etc...) the chap 11to put it simply, i;m just wondering what it takes to get into this field for someone that doesn't have legal or finance background? and how this work compare to other types of MC? i feel it's a field where you could learn a lot
Get CNBC to give you a TV show. Worked for Marcus Lemonis
No legal or financial background, i can't think of any place that would hire someone completely green. Most of the people in the industry had prior careers in finance/accounting related roles or did legal work related to restructuring/bankruptcy. Due to the short time horizons and high pressure on lots of deals, there isn't time to explain to someone the basics of financial statements.
MBB firms now are starting their restructuring groups for distressed and troubled companies. McKinsey is the most notable because there was an economist article a year ago or so stating how they poached couple of partners from Alix to begin this division. Google it, talk to people in that group, and although they don't give group specific offers, you can demonstrate interest and perhaps get staffed on those deals as a generalist
McKinsey's group is called RTS (Restructuring and Turnaround Services).
