Consulting vs. Sales - conflicted.
Hello,
I have opportunities to begin my career with Oracle as a Business Development Consultant (sets me up for a sales career) or IBM in their CBD Program (start out in consulting, but different opportunities afterwards). I'm not sure which is the right one for me, or which one would be a more strategic career move. Any insight is appreciated!
I am also interviewing for IBM's Summit program (kind of like sales, but more of a customer relationship representative role). I think the bottom line comes down to two questions:
-Sales or Consulting? Pros and cons?
-Oracle or IBM Culture?
I think you can always move from consulting to sales, but the opposite can be harder to do.
I know many people in that program at Oracle... it's not hard to get into. It's less prestigious, worse exit oops and probably lower salary potential (unless you're a rockstar at selling)
Take IBM and don't look back
Depends on what you want to do...agree with the above, its easier to move from consulting to sales.
