Corporate Development Internships
Hey Guys,
So I have been trying hard to get an investment banking internship for this summer and really haven't had much luck. I have a 3.9 in a top accounting program and I've networked a lot with banks, but I still can't manage to get noticed by many banks. I have only had 3 first round interviews and those got me to two SuperDays.
I am starting to panic though because I have exhausted my contacts at various banks and my chances are now looking slim. I have heard that corporate development is a good alternative but it seems as though a lot of the internships are for MBAs. Do you guys know of any corporations that offer undergrad internships?
Thank you for your help.
Well tbh corp dev is an exit opp from ibd, so if it is hard nailing an ibd position it might be even harder to get into corp dev. At the undergrad level it is prob more competitive to get into than ibd, and will almost certainly require a previous ibd internship at least for F500. You're best bet is prob big 4 accounting or corporate finance
I've heard that, too. Does anyone know of some that may hire an undergrad intern? Maybe not Fortune 500...
As Bulldogs12 said, probably Big4 is your best bet now. Their M&A or Valuation teams will help you a lot to land interviews for IBD and Corporate Dev. in the future. Btw, it is very unlikely that a non Fortune 500 company has its own Business Development team. Anyway, you can try to get an internship in the strategic division of some big company. I know that Nike offers internships in Strategy and Business Development in Europe and probably they do the same in the US.
I think Deloitte is a great big 4, I think they sent the third most amount of students into Columbia's MBA after McKinsey and BCG.
Corporate development internship for sophomore==> BB SA junior? (Originally Posted: 12/02/2009)
Hey everyone,
I just got an offer from a F500 company (in the 400-500 range) for a corporate development internship. It was relatively competitive in that they gave less than 5 offers, and they usually only offer these internships to juniors. I really liked everyone I interviewed with, and I feel that I would have a great time there. However, it's essentially an "exploding offer" in the sense that I need to decide before next semester (since they recruited in the fall). Do you all think it's a good idea to accept this? I ultimately want to break into IBD as a junior.
btw, I'm pretty sure I'm NOT going to get a sophomore gig anywhere on the street since I'm not a URM/have no connections.
take it
just go to the nba john
I did the same thing, although I'm a junior and just applied to about 50 SA positions, here's to hoping at least one gives me a damn interview.
