could this hurt me throughout the interviewing process?

I worked in a niche area and my former title and headline on Linkedin reflect that. However, since I am trying to not pigeonhole myself, I made that position on my resume to be more general and used a more general version job title but still completely accurate. I've been able to get interviews not completely related to what I've been doing by doing that but do most interviewers check a prospective's linkedin profile? Everything matches and nothing is odd about what I have on there except the issue I described in the first 2 sentences. Am I being paranoid that this can hurt my candidacy and get me dinged?

Even if the position is not ER related at all? that's what I meant so I used a general job title and was not really specific on my resume because that would pigeonhole me.

I only used the ER example since you're in that industry

You are fine. As long as you are not overstating job descriptions or lying about a front office versus back office job, you have nothing to worry about.

Research associate instead of xyz specific research associate is not a big deal.
