Custom Suit Options
For those who have purchased custom (bespoke) suits before, where did you go and how was your experience? I have gotten a few recommendations for Enzo Custom Clothiers and J Lucas Custom Clothiers. They offer the full custom tailoring experience at very reasonable price points. Has anyone had an experience at either shop? Any information/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Went to Hong Kong over the winter. Great tailors over there that can make high quality custom suits at great prices.
Yo Suit Supply is the shit.
Off -the- rack or custom ?? (Originally Posted: 10/17/2011)
Hi! I’m trying to by a new suit for an upcoming interview, and didn’t know what to try. Should I go off the rack, or with an online service like Alton Lane, Indochino, or Knot Standard? I’m a little confused – who has the best fabric, best quality, best refund policy. Has anybody tried these before?

Customised. Geeze that would be expensive no?
Tailored, off the rack.
Made-to-Measure! It's the middle ground between custom and off-the-rack. Custom is made from scratch using your measurements and o.t.f. is standardized across sizes. Made-to-measure on the other hand takes a standard pattern based on your chest size and alters it according to your measurements. I like it because it is a pain in the ass to buy a suit then go to a tailor. I'd rather have my measurements incorporated into the suit before I get it.

MTM if you can pony up the cash. Can be around 500-800 at the lower end.
if you've already bought a few suits and know what you like/don't like then mtm is good, otherwise otr is better.
Yeah, if you have had a few suits before then its a good time to go for customized, otherwise it should be off the rack for you.
Go off the rack from somewhere respectable, e.g. Brooks, and just get it tailored properly.
Brooks is terrible. Check out Indochino.com
BB is far superior to Indochino.
Indochino is cheap dress clothes for men who don’t know any better. Take your own measurements? If there’s any reason to spend money on clothes it’s to get a good fit.

Hello,
I am just starting my career and am looking to build my professional wardrobe. I have done a bit of research between the two but would like a few more opinions before I make a purchase.
My budget max is around $1, 000.
What are your opinions on custom and off the rack? Which places would you recommend I go to?
Thanks in advance!
Buy off rack, get it tailored properly.
reminded me of this:

and agree with happypants, don't buy custom if you're just getting started.
You can't do custom on a $1000 budget
Go for off the rack. At $1000 You'd maybe get one MTM suit from either some online store, or smaller local shop. Quality would be so-so.
Buy two suitsupply suits($650), a decent pair of cap-toes($250), 4 TM Lewin or Charles Thyrwit dress shirts(120$), and a couple of ties($80). That would put you 100$ above your budget, but it's a good start.
