Degree Dillema
Hi guys, so I'm currently a Finance junior but I have enough credits to graduate this spring (in 3 years). Originally I was thinking of spacing out my credits (taking 2 classes a semester til spring 2013).. but now I am thinking about taking 5 classes a semester and obtaining 30 more credits in accounting. So at the end of 2013, I will have a BBA in Finance as well as 30 credits in Accounting.. so can I take my CPA exam? I still want to be a banker but I just feel it would be more productive to do this instead of taking 2 classes a semester.. and I don;t want to graduate this spring as a junior because I still need to do my IB internship this summer.
Please let me know what you think! All advice is helpful
anyone...?
yea dude go ahead and do it. keep your options open, you know?
My main question is, would it be good to get the cpa for a career in IB? or is it better to take 2 classes a semester and study for CFA?
Neither really. As long as you perform in that internship and (possibly) get a FT offer you won't need either. Waste of energy IMO
Thanks so after researching that's also what I came across. But what should I do in my time then? Just get a part time job and take 2 classes a semester?
As long as it's a relevant job
Ok, let me understand this right. IF you decide to take more courses, it's for the 150 credit requirement for most states' CPA req. And this would be for the "safety" in case your banking career doesn't pan out. Correct? If so, why would you relate getting CPA to a career in IB? You'd only pursue CPA if your IB career doesn't work out. CPA won't help you net a job in IB. You'd only take that sidetrack if things don't go according to your plan (and it probably won't given this shitty economy).
Don't be a lazy bum, and take those courses (unless you're gonna do co-op or get an internship/job at a bank). Studying for CFA? Fuck that dude, you can do that shit after you get a job. CFA on resume will only have a minimal impact and shouldn't be the reason to be a lazy ass. If anything, show that you got what it takes to be a banker and take them courses, study for CFA (if you insist), and get all of them shit done.
