Delayed Graduation but Pending Job Offer

Backstory:
I recently found out from my University's Degree verification that I am in need of 3 semester hours of a Nonbusiness Elective to fully complete my finance degree. I therefore signed up for an accelerated 4 week course that will end July 28th and I will then meet all my requirements.

However, I just received an offer for a government job that is supposed to start on July 11th. Clearly they will find out everything during the education verification process.

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on how to present this topic to HR and possibly get the start date pushed back until August 1st and therefore keep the job! I'm also extremely worried they may rescind the offer... Any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks!

My suggestion is talk to the HR, tell them your full situation and then try to convert your offers to another SA offer instead and accept one if one of the three gives it to you. Then perform well and hope on landing a full time offer again from the BB.

Your second option is a defer, but I don't know how willing the bank in which you got the offers is likely to do that. Unless you know one of the banks over hired last year or is in a bad situation would like to have the defer then it would be great. If one of your BB is CS, then you can get an optional defer.

Even then there is no guarantee CS will be deferring offers again this year tho.

this will suck........ work as an SA again only to HOPE i get the offers I originally got. ::sighs::.

Thanks for the advice though, guess I will let them know ASAP.

Quick question, would it be considered pretentious to mention I got 3 offers this year if I interview for SA positions in the upcoming season? I see much potential downside to this... on the other hand, it proves I am capable, no? Also, is it okay to write this on resume?

"Extended full-time offers from X, X, and X"

Aren't your offers for HK banks? If so, I'd think you'd get much better at Mandarin faster through immersion than studying in a class. I'd suggest: 1) figure out whether taking an extra year to graduate is really the best way to improve your Mandarin 2) talking to the banks you have the offers from to see if they think you'd be more successful with another year of Mandarin study at school under your belt 3) ask the banks how they feel about either turning offer into a SA stint or deferring it

just accept one of those offers, take this year to sharpen up your mandarin, and learn more as you work.. youll get better as you go and im sure it wont be a hinderance to your future either... theres really little marginal difference in helping your future by taking that extra year to study abroad even if it does help your mandarin by risking these offers. obviously they didnt feel your mandarin ability was anything worth not giving you an offer. just my 2cent.
