Deloitte BTA Salary Progression
Hey guys,
I am a new analyst at Deloitte and had a couple of questions regarding both career and salary progression as I am not a regular bachelor's new hire.
I joined the firm coming out of a Master of Science program with no previous experience so still got hired as an Analyst rather than a Consultant. My question however is... how will this affect me down the road as far as promotions and salary.
For example, I know a lot of people go back to get their MBA after 2-3 years while being in the Consultant position. As I already have a MS, I don't really know if it will be worthwhile to get my MBA. However, does this affect my salary? I heard someone say that when they bring back people with MBA's or other Masters degrees, they bring them in as a Senior Consultant with a significantly higher pay and bonus than if say, I were to just climb up to Senior Consultant internally. But why is this? If I already have my Masters shouldn't it be the same? I spoke to a girl who came in as a Consultant with a Masters degree for about $105K and $20K signing bonus.. this seems higher than what I've heard from other consultants who just got promoted from BTA's.
Also, should I be pushing for a faster promotion to either Consultant or Sr. Consultant because of my degree? How can I frame this without being too "self-entitled"?
I appreciate any feedback. Thanks everyone in advance.
You won't get promoted faster or have bigger comp increases b/c of your previous masters...MBA is a different animal in consulting and lets you come in at a higher level with a pay bump (if you have previous experience). That said, if you do MBA straight out of undergrad you aren't going to come in any higher though, it's all about experience.
master degrees, especially those "integrated" approaches, are viewed as the same as a bachelor degree. You might see a slight bump in your starting salary but other than that, you will be viewed as an entry level.
