Deutsche Bank Chicago
Can anyone tell me about how strong it is against the top Chicago banks (UBS/CS/GS)? What about DB's industrials group as a whole, since they say that 1/2 of it is located in Chi. Culture, exit ops, any info would be really helpful. Thanks.
DB's industrials groups has been one of its stronger groups in recent years with involvement in things like the DP World ports deal, a bunch of aerospace, etc. However, most of DB's deal flow has come as a result of a strong debt financing franchise which has decreased deal volume recently.
Can't tell you its relative "Chicago" ranking, but in the Chi-town office they do almost exclusively auto deals. Also, hours are just as bad as the NYC office, with some more bitch work as the infrastructure isn't as well built (printing resources etc). Culture is the same as the rest of DB, fairly entrepreneurial with a business casual method of dress and access to senior management. Tends to be a little regional in its mindset with less access to the broader bank. So, if you were in dustrials in NY you would see the head of Lev Fin and whatnot fairly often, not so in Chi-town.
Exit ops for industrials has been very strong recently, out of 16 analyst in the current second year class at least one is going to KKR, Carlyle Group, and Blackstone (ie 25% to top tier PE) and everyone else who wanted to leave has placed at a decent PE/HF shop.
Hours across dustrials can be some of the worst in the bank due to the cross border nature. Some guys worked exclusively with Singapore and therefore worked on a 11am-7am schedule.
Hope this helps
Thank you for the info PowerMonkey. Do those strong industrials exit ops extend to the Chicago office as well?
Also, does anyone know if the DB Chicago office is full execution? I know they do have a couple M&A guys over there.
Finally, everyone knows that CS/UBS/GS is top in Chitown. Can anyone give me a relative ranking in prestige between -
DB ML JPM CITI LEH MS BS in Chicago?
i am interested in this as well..
Dude if you're working a 11 am - 7 am work schedule I'd have to say you can pretty much do anything you want after that.
DB - Solid Industrials. Seem to have high analyst turnover ML - Very small office. Not sure its even self-sustaining JPM - Big presence in city with the old Bank One groups. Have a portion of their M&A group here along with many Lev Fin groups. Did fire some lev fin chicago analysts recently. BS- Decent group of people. They are small.
UBS - Awful. I recommend not going there. Chicago office is falling apart (Dismantled Telecom group there) Others: Lincoln International - Good placement into middle market PE i.e. CIVC BofA - Crains says they have the biggest office in Chicago. Have Industrials, Consumer, and Media and Telecom. At least a couple analysts went to MDP
Morgan Stanley also has a presence. At least as far as their real estate group.
great info guys, anyone else?

Hey guys, just curious as to anyone's knowledge regarding DB's Chicago office (purely industrials), as it pertains to deal flow, exit opps, and anything else. Thanks!
