I'm a recent graduate starting soon on a structured product desk and I want brush up on my Excel and PowerPoint skills. Does anyone have any ideas or resources that they would recommend?

Is there a website that has a tutorial teaching excel shortcuts (used in banking), and powerpoint presentations (for company profiles and pitchbooks)?

Starting my BB FT analyst program soon, and I don't really know excel or powerpoint beyond the basics (very few shortcuts, none of the advanced functions etc.).
I can basically use excel as far as understanding data in there and putting in simple formulas. Powerpoint is even worse.
How much of a disadvantage is this going to be? Do many of you (students or current analysts) learn excel specifically for the job before starting or just pick things up on the job?

Hi,
I've been on the IBD desk now for a few months but I am still finding tasks on Powerpoint and Excel that should really take 1 hour actually take me a lot longer beacuse of my weak computer skills.
Does anyone know of any books, tuition courses, computer programs that I could use so that I can develop my computer skills further in spare time?

Did they not train you in Excel?
Pick up a book at Borders or B&N on excel skills. Also, there are some good youtube tutorials on how to use some of excel's more powerful features.
With powerpoint, take some time to mess around to figure out how to make things look nice. The new version of ppt has some auto graphics features and a better color palette, so even if you're not all that good, it can make your presentation look pretty nice.
How long have you been using the programs for? It is a steep learning curve but the tasks get easier with every attempt.

Okay guys, If I suck terribly at Excel (since as a former poly sci major I never really had to use it that often), do you think I should try to teach myself how to use it better if I plan on getting an internship next summer? I should be able to get some more exposure to it during this upcoming college year since I'll be switching my major to economics but I still highly doubt it will be enough for me to become at least an intermediate at it. I don't want to be that annoying intern who doesn't know how do simple shit like formatting and whose incredibly slow and always has to ask questions and on top of that who does things wrong. I also want to be able to help full timers out if I see them getting overwhelmed instead of sitting there and being useless. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks.practice. there's no shortcut.
I know a shortcut or two with Excel.
You should learn to properly spell Excel, otherwise you'll end up "ref'ing" out on all your formulas.
