Dinner - "dress casual, jeans are ok"
So,
I have a dinner coming up the day before a superday with my #1 firm. This is for a summer internship in Houston.
I have been told that "dress is casual and jeans are ok"...
Do you think I am seriously supposed to wear jeans? I was planning on wearing a suit to dinner - I have done similar dinners and everyone is always in a suit or at least a sports coat.
Thanks!

Is this a bank or a fortune 500?
Bank - Think a Houston office Evercore/Moelis/TPH/Simmons
Play it safe and wear a suit, potentially over dressing is much less of a problem than doing the opposite. I doubt you will get any flak for wearing a suit even if the others are dressed more casually.
I'd go with what I call bankers business casual which is a suit with no tie
This. Maybe pull the brown shoes/brown belt look, as brown TENDS to look a bit less formal/dressy than black. I would also put a tie in the suit pocket and check-in early to see if everyone else is wearing a tie. If so, go put on your tie quickly in the bathroom.
No brown shoes at night. No discussion. The tie advice is great, however.
I think nice jeans, nice shoes, tucked in button down shirt, and a blazer. Boom, you're hired.
I think it's worth saying here that this isn't some sort of weird test. They're not going to tell you that jeans are ok if they aren't.
They'll likely be more concerned with your ability to hold a conversation and not be a drone, than anything else. Overdressing isn't exactly the right move here. Be confident and you should be ok.

wear a tux - you wouldn't want to come off looking like an asshole
Most casual I would go : trouser, sport jacket
I think slacks, dress shirt and blazer is fine. I think suit, no tie is fine. I think dark jeans, dress shirt and blazer is fine. Just look professional, sharp and be comfortable.
Life doesn't include an ingredients list. Sometimes you have to trust yourself.
Thanks all for the input everyone. I am going to do slacks, dress shirt, and blazer. I wouldn't feel right in jeans, and I think that is a happy medium. Fingers crossed everything goes well.
