Do big banks still look to hire FT Analysts after Oct?

I know big banks recruit for SA in the spring (Jan to March). It is possible to get a financial analyst position at a big bank after Mid Oct to Dec? I know the big banks have finished recruiting for IB /finance/credit, etc by mid Oct(at least if you got the interview). I always thought that after Oct there is minimum positions open at these big banks for FT? Perhaps none through formal recruting such as OCR postings?

I saw HSBC have a analyst position deadline is due like Oct 20, so maybe a few big banks like Sumitomo could still be looking to hire but unless they hire from your college, its going to be very hard to get an interview.

From what I've heard, most of the BB's have filled their FT positions. While there may be a few isolated openings in specific groups, there will be intense competition from highly qualified individuals.

Thank you Determined. I would like to know if anyone has experience of whether the big banks like Citi, HSBC, etc continue to hire any FT financial analyst positions after mid-late Oct onward? It appears that once Oct is finished and you didn't get an offer at a big bank in an analyst position (even Operations), then you could graduate without a job if you just apply to positions on your career site since no more big banks are hiring analysts in any area.

I remember as a junior last year, a few big name firms has postings even after march. I don't know if they were hiring though. Still can't rely on any big banks hiring since its going to be minimal i feel.

Two things.

  1. No BB's do not hire FT analysts after October UNLESS one of their candidates reneges or gets theirs rescinded, then they would go to usually internal people or people they rejected in the final round. So it sounds like you weren't in that case, so final answer = No.

  2. Do not rely on online job postings. Many positions that are posted are either almost filled or already have someone in mind for it but post it merely for record and HR reasons. I would advise you start looking at smaller firms where the timing is fine. Some banks have postings from like 2009-2011 etc. I doubt these are still available yet they are there. Doesn't mean you are gonna be able to get the job.

While this is generally true, it's really on a case by case basis. We are constantly assessing our headcount needs and oftentimes we will hire people off-cycle outside of the structured process. I received my offer later than expected, albeit still thru the FT process, so it's really hard to stick a pin in the exact date that recruiting stops. Ultimately, if Group Heads / Senior Bankers determine that they need to hire someone and get approval internally, they will find someone and hire them without using an HR process.

Good (and true) information that I never knew until recently. I'll probably never apply to a job online again.

Is this true only for FO positions? What about BO/MO roles? Are they gone after October as well?

Its on a case by case basis. There are actually many MO and BO roles that will pop up throughout the year. Its very difficult though to get them because everyone that got rejected from the programs are all applying trying to get into the industry. You will not find any analyst class type roles though after october.

If its about Hong Kong FO, I say its not too good. Half the banks aren't even bothering with FT recruiting this year. The deadline has already passed for most of the rest (and some have started first round interviews) although there are still a few who are open to applications.

Wouldn't put too much hope though. You'll probably be competing with many who did a BB SA stint but failed to land a offer. But hey, nothing is impossible right?

Anyone have any idea how difficult it is to get a boutique full time? I feel I have a decent chance with my summer analyst experience if I keep cold emailing/calling boutiques. I have tried cold emailing as a junior and had almost no luck. Got my boutique through a job posting at my college website.
