Do non BB IBD generally have the 3.5 minimum expectation?
I am looking at MM banks like Houlihan Lokey, Jefferies, Piper Jaff, Blair, Baird, KBW and wondering if in general, 3.5 is the cutoff? I know people can get in under it with great networking, alumni, connections etc., but in general do they have a lower cutoff?
I believe it is dependent on the candidates who applies and they have lower cutoffs in general.
Depends on your school. If everyone has high GPAs, you can bet the cutoff will be 3.7 to 3.8 for BBs and MMs
I dont get OCR, so I guess, I'd basically be competing against all other nontargets, even though my school has lower GPAs on avg
Typically it's the soft cutoff unless you have a great connection
any cutoff is only for those who blindly submit. If you talk to any of the people who work at your target bank before submitting and they like you, there is a very good chance that you will get at least an interview. And at the interview GPA no longer matters.
From my experience, 3.5 is the cutoff for most MMs and some boutiques. However, effective networking can land you an interview if you don't have a 3.5.
Bingo. your gpa can easily be overcome if you network effectively...
There might be a hard cutoff when applying online, but more often than not, they're not going to auto-ding you for having sub 3.5. Regardless, you'd be competing against a ton of people who have >3.5 so I guess you can consider it a "cutoff".
