Do you think it's necessary/useful to have english name for foreigners if your name is difficult to remember or pronounce?
If so, should it be included in your resume, or should it be used informally?
If you are applying for English jobs, then yes. If you are applying in your country or for a job in your language, then no. Simple as that. Or just be prepared for them to butcher your name.
I once had a customer named Tittiporn. No joke. That was awkward as hell.
Quite the opposite. My foreign African name is usually followed by "that's incredibly unique" or "let's have sex". Kidding about the latter, but only slightly.
Truth is, if you're impressive in any regard, people will go out of their way to remember your face and name - common or uncommon. If it's uncommon, just expect them to butcher it at the beginning while Tom, Dick and Harry get away unscathed.
My father had a hyphenated first name (common in France) - he just shortened it, and would go everywhere by that new name. It's a way to integrate to the society you are leaving in. The Chinese do that a lot as well, and I have a lot of respect for people who do that. I on the other hand just use my full name, even though it's very foreign, but then again, I am not an ideal citizen.
I found most Eastern Asians do that in the UK, even some Asians in Singapore had Western names.
I think it's good, like Disjoint said it shows that you want to integrate the society. I often found that those who chose Western names also hung out with more Westerners and were more outgoing.
I would do it if my name was challenging. In Europe my name usually exists in every language so I just get them to call me their by their version. In Asia, if I learnt the local language I would probably take a local name.
My advice would be to do it but don't take a non traditional name. I met this one Chinese guy who called himself Secure because he works in quality control, it was pretty funny.
