Does a PE internship help down the line?

I apologize if this is a repeat topic. My search did not yield the answer to my question.

Does PE internship as an undergrad help during PE recruiting out of an analyst program?

On the face of it it seems like it would at least help some. However, I'm curious as to how much a part-time internship at a small fund in my college town during my senior year would really help. I'm weighing the benefits of doing a PE internship and just relaxing and having some free time during my senior.

Any help or anecdotes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

given your two options, internship vs sit on your ass, i think you know the answer.
Well, I should clarify. I would TA for a class if I don't accept the internship. Meaning, I would either do 5 hours of work a week or 20 hours of work a week for roughly the same pay. Further, I have interned two straight years through college and it would be nice to have a semi-lazy college year.

I'm leaning towards the internship as I'm interested in the field. But, as I said, it would be nice for once to have some free time to pursue other hobbies.

Aren't you the Head of North American M&A at UBS? So sad that you need to also get an internship to make ends meet.

Anyone else doing IBD at JPM?

Nope, small class this year... just the two of us. Hope we get our groups :) UBS" first. They looked puzzled and said that was another bank. I told them we all knew it was only a matter of time before JPMorgan bought them. We all laughed. They then made me head of North American M&A.

Do the TA, let me get the contact info for the PE firm. Easy.
Alright. Their number is 281-330-8004. Give them a call.

internship might be a great way in, other thing you should consider is IB internship and later full time for 2 years. I was told by few MDs of PE funds that they requitre 2 years of IB experience
I have a BB SA position this summer with a group with an extremely high conversion rate. Further I've spent a year at a local M&A boutique, a semester at a hedge fund, and a semester doing PWM. I'm more concerned with the later jump to the buyside and trying to think if there is anything I can do now that might help my chances. I'd assume that an internship would help some. However, I'm curious if a MF or top MM fund is really going to care a whole lot about a part-time internship during undergrad. If they don't care very much, I'd rather spend my time enjoying my senior year than working as I have done for two years while taking a full courseload and doing EC crap.

Cant tell if trolling
Not trolling. I'm going to guess that your vote is for doing the internship.

Apparently I'm being dense here or something?

It really won't matter given everything else you have done. Internship experience doesn't matter that much once you have full time experience. Assuming you get a full time offer at your summer gig, I would chill the fuck out and enjoy my last year of school if I was in your shoes.
