Does hairloss = screwed ?

So I'm in college and losing my hair and I'll probably be bald when I get out. Am I screwed for investment banking jobs at top firms. Also what about future PE recruiting, am I screwed there, because it seems like all the PE associates have perfect flow. I'm freaking out here thinking my dream of a PE career is doomed.

Shave it and get sporty. Lean/muscled bald guys command exponentially more respect then bald fatties or pencil thin baldies.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

I'm actually trying to decide what to do, because my hairline is receding. I think I can ride it out a bit longer, but I'm like 5'7, 125 pounds so I'm not sure the bald look would be good for me. I'm going to either have to put on weight or get hair transplant surgery or something.

hey man, fellow chrome dome here, hair started receding at 20, noticeably so by graduation. embrace it, buzz your head (go no guard), and if you want to be real bold, go straight razor (what I do). straight razor is definitely higher maintenance than buzzing but my hair is so dark that if I let it grow it'd look like a tonsure. will probably go back to buzzing once I lose some more hair but straight razor is awesome.

women love it, it makes you look older (which is good for someone who's 22), and you save a shitload of money on haircuts (not having to get them). I bought a remington buzzer in 9th grade and it lasted me through senior year of college. 40 bucks is normal for a haircut, and I got haircuts for 7-8 years for the same price.

think about it like this, you have 3 options:

  1. keep what you have, no changes: now visualize George Costanza, Homer Simpson, or Colin Farrell from Horrible Bosses, terrible looks

  2. cover it up: Donald Trump's hair, need I say more?

  3. embrace the bald: Tim Howard, Vin Diesel, Buddha, Bruce Willis, Gandhi, Mr. Clean, Voldemort, Patrick Stewart, the list goes on

the point is, balding is a natural part of many males' lives, and not only is it a good look if you embrace it, women love the confidence of a man who embraces his DNA versus hanging onto scraps or worse (covering it up).

best of luck.

Dude, doesn't your head burn in the lineup? Zinc oxide the head?

I honestly thought the op was trolling. Of course I have perfect Sam Malone locks and that's what helped me get ahead (pun intended) because a thick head of hair shows virility but there's been one, maybe two, balding guys who made it in banking and PE but they had 10 inch cocks. Just be ready to pull it out if you're bald.

No one cares if you're bald. Bic it or closely buzz it and show you embrace it. Like others have said, just don't Costanza or Trump it. I started out with two guys in repe, one was basically bald at 23 and the other was almost entirely grey at the same age. Almost 20 years later they're wildly successful in RE. For one thing, many of the senior guys will be losing or have lost their hair anyway and you'll have something that subconsciously connects you. For another, this seems like a post asking if this or that suit/shirt/cuff link/cummerbund will make me succeed in a career. As long as you don't have a combover or wear dollar sign cuff links that light up, your performance will dictate your career progression. Not your haircut.

As a side note, Larry David argues contemptuously that men who shave it are actually NOT 'embracing' their baldness and are taking the easy way out. Those people are not members of the 'bald community' and are instead doing what is 'fashionable'. I don't actually recommend his route, though.

Don't forget Andrew Zimmern and Paul Shaffer.

If you want to halt your hair loss and don't have a lot of money to spend, go to some bodybuilding boards for advice. If you still can't figure it out, you should rethink PE for non-hairloss-related reasons...

Get on Rogaine NOW. I started rapidly losing my hair a couple of years ago and have kept it all mostly intact since. I order a one month supply of the spray on foam off Amazon for about 18 bucks. The only drawback is that you have to take it FOREVER in order to reap the benefits but who's complaining? You won't regret it.

Rogaine doesn't work for everyone, didn't work for me. In the four months I used it I swear I was losing more hair than usual due to how unbelievably itchy it made my scalp. So if you do start using Rogaine be aware of the possible itching. In the last year I've started going to the steam room almost 5 times weekly after I work out, and at the same time span I've stopped losing my hair which I find quite amazing. I'm not sure at all that the steam room is the reason but it is the only thing I can pinpoint to, and my scalp feels fantastic after every steam. Give it a shot.

The bald thing doesn't really bother me, I come from a long line of bald guys and can get over it. My worry is that looks will prevent me from getting a job in investment banking and later private equity. None of the firms I've looked at have bald associates....so my question is will being bald hurt my chances for a private equity job?

Hi, One of my eyebrows is slightly bigger than the other one. As in not that much but still enought that you would notice my subpar DNA from at least 50cm.

I am worried that the interview tables would be set in a way where i get too close to my interviewer, letting him notice asymetric beta-male eyebrows.

Do you think i should shave the big one ? I am really worried this will hurt my prospects to get a job.

@OP : seriously, WTF is this thread ?!?

Like many others have already said, I think there are more important things to worry about in terms of getting these jobs. I just graduated college, so the people above have seen and been around the industry longer but here's my two cents..

I am losing my hair at a rapid pace, already have a noticeable bald spot on the top of my head, and my hairline is starting to recede. I do, however, have an athletic build and played a sport in college, so I get where you're coming from there..but nevertheless, I am balder than any of my friends.

I went to a complete non-target liberal arts school and managed to get three different offers from solid IBD groups at BBs. If I can do it (assuming you go to a better school and are normal enough to come across well in interviews) you can...obviously try to slow down the hairloss process, but that should not be your primary concern. To be honest, the fact that you are even making a post like this tells me that you should probably spend more time focusing on your insecurity issues than hair issues. You need to grow a pair and let me' hang dude...

Yup your screwed, your hair line is a crucial deciding factor. I mean think about, when your in meetings with important clients, and the reflection from your bald shinny head is blinding them, do you really think they will want to do business with you? Nobody wants that, I suggest you start looking for a new career, perhaps a bowling complex.

To pack on the pounds so you can build some muscle for your new look drink a gallon of milk each day. I did it for 20 days and gained 20 lbs. be careful though - you MUST workout while doing so of all the weight will go to your stomach and you will be in a worse position. If I were to do it again, id do it for 10 days and workout every day, then stop drinking for another 10 days while working out and then pick up drinking for another 10 days. You'll gain the 20 lbs rapidly but you'll have worked out enough over the month to be pretty fit. Shit works it's called the GOMAD diet.

I think there should be a "Darwin awards" section on this website.

You killed the Greece spread goes up, spread goes down, from Wall Street they all play like a freak, Goldman Sachs 'o beat.

I had a co-worker who was my age who everyone thought was at least 40 when we all started together. He ended up being brought to meetings more, and asked to drum up business because he looked older. If he were a better analyst, I would have no doubt that he would had a more interesting experience than most other analysts. Embrace it.

High priced, perfectly fitting wigs are running rampant through Wall Street. It's an epidemic that needs to be stopped.

Michael Milken was legendary lol Seriously, he was a stud, if he shaved his head he would have gotten no less respect.

Please don't quote Patrick Bateman.
