Donald Sterling

What a hypocritical dinosaur this fucker is.

#1- He is/was fucking a black/Mexican chick
#2- He makes his living off of very talented black people
#3- This fucker was born Donald Tokowitz, and changed his name to the much less Jewish sounds Sterling

This guy is like 4-5 decades past his shelf life, shouldn't have died circa Brown v. Board of Ed.

Yeah, this guy is a piece of work. He is actually supposed to be awarded a humanitarian award by the NAACP this month. Talk about two faced.

"Everybody needs money. That's why they call it money." - Mickey Bergman - Heist (2001)

Not to deflect anything away from this POS, but his girl is a piece of work for leading him on, recording it and selling it for god knows how much. If she's really that money hungry, she'd be better off getting in his will, riding it out the next couple of years and make off with a few hundred million and then she can take any of her friends to any game she wants.

Dude, listen to this guy talk... there's no way in hell he would have married a black/Mexican.... boned maybe... married NFW.

She's a fucking tool too, more because she was fucking a wrinkly bigot who routinely talked shit about her and basically would get super irritated anytime she reminded him she's half black (probably as annoyed as he would get when he remembered he's Jewish).

She did about as well as she could possibly do. Very well done on her part... her end goal was obviously monetizing the wrinkly liver spotted bag of flesh she would routinely envelope herself in and I don't think anyone can accuse her of pulling any punches or not getting the most money/publicity out of the situation. I think she'll end up getting ten figure shut-up money from Sterling, what this guy cares most about is people's opinion of him... more than the publicity, NBA or public outcry this guy is probably most concerned with "people" talking and more of his dirty laundry getting aired. God knows what else she has him on tape saying about other races/religions, business associates etc.

She is in the middle of a ~$2MM lawsuit against her brought by Sterling. TMZ is also a reputability source of news.

No doubt this guy harbors racist feelings. He is fucking 80. I'm pretty sure most of the owners in the league think the same thing.

I give a slim to no chance of anything serious happening regarding this. Professional sports leagues seem to have little moral qualms with paying millions to people who commit and continue to commit all kinds of crime. A billionaire bigot isn't going to change things.

he is def off his rocker. But he's among the generation where such ideas were common. I'd understand the commotion if he were younger, or he were a public figure, like John Kerry comparing the Jewish State to apartheid, but seriously, the media just NEEDS a story. They like money more than Wall Street. And what about freedom of speech, freedom of privacy?

Dude, what are you talking about? Freedom of speech? The 1st amendment allows for people to express themselves without being prosecuted by the government, not from private corporations and public opinion.

While I've read and heard points of view that disagree with how this whole thing has unfolded, that I actually agree with, the nonsense being spouted by people about freedom of speech, privacy, inadmissibility of the recordings, and illegal seizure of assets is ridiculous. How the tapes were recorded is irrelevant to the NBA. If it was illegal that Sterling is free to sue his side piece for damages or try and get the DA to press criminal charges if a crime was committed.

Yes, he has the freedom to express his beliefs/views. Similarly, the NBA (a corporation/association) has the right to express their views and run the league as they see fit. If the participants of the league believe one of their members' views are contradictory to their values, they by all means have the right to tell expel him from their association.

Is Sterling being forced to sell the Clippers? No, he can't be forced to sell it nor can he be forced to shut the club down... no one has the authority to do that except maybe the Justice Department / Attorney General... and if they did seek to do that, then that would indeed be in violation of his 1st amendment rights.

What the NBA is doing is saying we no longer want to include you in our club. Our club is valuable and we maintain a certain set of order to protect all constituents and our opinion is that you're not consistent with that mandate.

Donald Sterling can continue to own the Clippers if he wants. But they won't play any NBA teams and won't be part of the National Basketball Association. Therefore its in his best interest and the best interest of the league to tell him to sell the team (if that's what the board of governors decide). Essentially it will be a intramural basketball team.

Your points were 1) Sterling is a hypocrite 2) They are both using each other 3) The NBA has the right and presumably the obligation to protect their constituents. But protect against what? Everybody is prejudice in certain areas; most just keep it to themselves. How is Sterling now a threat that constituents need to be protected from? Also, all people are hypocrites too. We want justice served against Sterling, but don't want our sins splashed all over the tabloids. Racism goes both ways but only gets coverage when it's against a certain race.

I look at things more pragmatically. He made a stupid decision and is paying the price for it. Its not a particularly expensive price, by the way. He's getting some bad press which will blow over as soon as the next Bieber episode, reality trash sex tape, etc. Yeah, maybe he'll have to sell the team... big fuckin deal. He bought it for $18 million, he'll probably end up selling it for at least $300-500 million. He'll arguably lose some value since he's a duressed seller, but I actually think it'll work to his benefit since this has gotten so much attention a lot of people will look at this that otherwise may not have bothered.

I terms of his poor decision... he has a point of view that is probably fairly prevalent in his old white monied circles. Actually its very prevalent and I've seen it quite often in people I've met on Wall Street as well. The difference is they aren't as dumb as he is. Do they have a black/white/asian/hispanic/etc side piece... I'm sure they do. But they are smart (or lucky) enough to conduct themselves that doesn't expose them in the fashion that this fucker has. He made a poor decision and now he's getting a hot chocolate enema for it. Although as I mentioned above, its not a piping hot hot chocolate enema... its probably slightly hotter than comfortable. The chick is obviously a dumb skank, you tell figure that out from the recordings.... he was stupid enough to expose himself to her (no pun intended) and thats what he fuckin gets.

Lastly. I just don't like the guy. I don't like racists and bigots and to be quite honest I'm not a fan of people who change their names because they are ashamed or embarrassed of who they are.

Assorted thoughts about this whole issue

  1. Sterling, go f**k yourself.

  2. If you leave your wife of 50+ years for a basic hoe like that, you deserve every bad thing that happens to you.

  3. I hate how ESPN and TNT have decided to cover this story the way that cable news covers race stories. I was smart enough to stay away from MSNBC, CNN, Fox, but I had no idea that the likes of the TNT NBA crew would turn into faux-sociologists. Which brings me to...

  4. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE ABOUT DONALD STERLING. Not the history of racism in America, not the Civil Rights movement, not MLK, not white people and how they should feel bad for everything low-life racists have ever said and done.

  5. Overall, I don't see much wrong with Silver's decision. One thing that concerned me a little: Silver literally gave him the harshest penalty possible. While I understand he was making an example out of him, it implies the message that being a closet racist is the absolute worst thing that someone can do. Not committing felonies and misdemeanors, like many athletes have done. But I'm certainly crying no tears for Sterling.

  6. I love how the NBA is making a marketing campaign out of this (NOT). 'We Are One'? Seriously? Which brings me to my last thought...

  7. What Donald Sterling did was get caught exposing his racist and paternalist thoughts about black NBA players (and maybe black people in general). Nothing more, nothing less. But you would think he kidnapped virgin adolescents, killed 57 puppies with a butcher knife, and caused an earthquake-tornado mix that swallowed the entire population of LA county with all the melodrama exuding through everyone who talks about it. All I'm saying is please use your regular voices. There's really no need for all of that.

His little chick is in for a world of hurt. Cali is a two party state and she basically recorded him without his permission. So that is against the law and this is amazing civil case material. In the end I hope both get their just deserts.
