I am sure no one gives a shit about it. This is banking, not Unicef. People who put that shit on their resume are douches. Personally, I would grill them on it. It is one thing to volunteer, but everyone under the sun creating some non profit is counter productive.

I have a question i started a non-profit that will generate >15k per month (projected), and (becasue i think it is better than just giving money away) loans it out (not through Kiva) through selected MFIs. i was planning on putting it on my resume but if it is not really going to help i will not put it on. I dont mind as i enjoy doing it. It is a 501c3 orginazition (Government recognized non-profit)

***by projected i mean that i have all of the means and capital lined up it is just that my business plan requires me to be in school so i am waiting until september.

Tmgolf: I wouldn't include anything on your resumé that you haven't already done or are in the progress of really doing. A future business plan isn't worth much.

To the rest of you, I think there is value on public-interest work beyond what a future employer would care about. Furthermore, the resumé is read by people not companies, and non-profits often provide a special 'flavor' to your profile as someone who cares about what they are doing. I know consulting cares about this, and I would assume that many people in IB do as well. Of course, skills are pretty important too!

Do you realize that the previous post was written 2+ years ago? That guy is probably at BSD status by now.
