EB Analyst to CorpDev?
I'm set to graduate in May and will be working at a generalist boutique Greenhill/Moelis/PJT in NY afterwards. I have had a lot of free time this past year to consider what I want to do after my two years and have concluded that I'm not too interested in pursuing PE or HFs. I have never really been that interested in finance and, to be honest, I'm more or less doing banking because all my friends went after it and they told me it was prestigious and paid well.
Coming from a liberal arts background, I've always been attracted to media and publishing. Those interests kinda fell off the radar after the banking craze took over but I've realized that those are the fields in which I'd be happiest working in for the long run. Especially media-- my dream job would be to work as a concept art designer for a place like Lucasfilm. Obviously those positions are pretty hard to come by and a more realistic option would be to go for CorpDev.
What are some steps that I can take now to position myself for a CorpDev job at a large media company like Disney? Given that I'll be a generalist, I'm sure I'll be able to get on some media deals as an analyst-- would that be helpful? When do analysts usually leave for CorpDev positions-- do they typically stay the two years or is it possible to leave after one? In case I have a change of heart and do decide to go after PE, is it possible to recruit concurrently for both PE and CorpDev?
Appreciate the help
