ECON: BROWN VS DARTMOUTH VS ND (some sort of business major)
Hey Guys...
I was wondering which would be more adequate for entering Wall Street.
I am not sure about Notre Dame's prominence at Wall Street and IB but I know that they have a tight alumni connection, which would be extremely helpful in the long run. Notre Dame offers various business majors at Mendoza, which I would probably be taking finance.
I know that at Brown, I would take Econ which is more biased on Keynes (I guess it really doesnt matter). People claim that since not as many people pursue IB at Brown, it would be easier if you were extremely motivated. Then, the presence of other people's choices might distort my dream of going to Wall Street and with motivation, I guess I could be successful in any of the institutions mentioned.
On the other hand, Dartmouth's econ is slightly biased with Hayek. I know that the alumni connection is really close-knit as well. Dartmouth is more prominent in Wall Street than these two schools, right?
Please let me know and any feedback would be appreciated :)
this is not college confidential
Jeez what is with all these random college selection threads popping up recently. Dartmouth a clear winner for IB.
Who cares whether the program is biased towards Keynes or Hayek. Look, I love Hayek, but neither of these details should effect your decision. If you are an econ major, you might only take a few macroeconomic classes, so it really doesn't matter. I was an econ major, and I only took 2 macro classes (both of which were more Keynesian). If you do some reading outside of the class, you will learn enough about Hayek and Keynes views, so it really doesn't matter. Just go to whatever school will give you the most opportunities.
I don't know about how it works at Brown but Keynesian economics generally sucks balls. I'd go with Dartmouth but if you want a more liberal atmosphere or something then by all means go with Brown.
Based on your question, I will make an unfair judgement of your personality. And based on it, I urge you to go to Notre Dame, because it is the largest school on this list, and you will be best able to survive in quiet anonymity. At the other two, you will be punished - socially and professionally - for your misguided comprehension of what is important to (a) ib recruiting, and (b) life.
Just for answering your question, I would say Dartmouth. But if I were you, I would first cross out Notre Dame for being a catholic school, then pick Dartmouth because I envy their tight-knit community. Again, this logic is just for me, but do you see my point? Choosing college should be based on your social life. If you go to Dartmouth and don't fit in (which is actually quite possible for being a small school), you probably won't get an IB job. But if you go to Notre Dame or Brown and love it, you will end up making lots of great connections and getting a job you want. So, go to college confidential now and figure out which crowd you would fit in the best.
