EDF Trading: well known in the Energy Trading business?
Hi guys,
Just wanted to know your take on these guys? Are they well known in the energy trading business? Or am I better off at a prop house, e.g. Gunvor.

EDF trading is a very well known place. They bought Eagle Energy after Lehman went under.. There a pretty big power trading firm in North America and they do quite a bit of oil trading in Europe.
Thanks a lot for this. I'm more interested in the Oil aspect, as power and gas just don't appeal. Do you know how they compare to places like Gunvor, Vitol and Mercuria?
Thanks for this, it is appreciated.

Ask monty09
Very big European utility. If you want to do power, it's a great place.
Your best to talk to Monty as already mentioned. Also mentioned they are legacy guys in the industry which were bought by the European utility. They have a very strong natty and power desk, very strong in the Northeast and West Markets (PNW specifically).
So I only know two guys who work in Houston office. From what I can tell, they really like it and it has a fairly strong reputation in their space.
Walkio - to my knowledge they do not trade oil, but I could be wrong. As everyone else has said, ask monty09. He used to work there.
EDF is well respected in the gas market though, we do a lot of business with them.
Not a crude shop that I know and if they do trade some, it's tiny. Very strong player in power, natty, coal and freight, particularly in Europe.
They are well known in the power markets, but the power markets today are hampered by regulation.
The commodity trading houses - Gunvor as you mentioned for example - are pretty well respected and are probably less power focused. Neither are bad but if it were my choice I'd choose a commodity house every single time as the potential pay-off is particularly higher at those shops.
EDF Trading Interview ERCOT real time (Originally Posted: 11/14/2011)
Has anyone interviewed for ERCOT real time trader with EDF Trading in Houston? I have an interview in about a week and wanted to get some feedback regarding what to expect for the interview. I am coming out of undergrad (Finance) with no experience in Power, but i do have experience in NAT GAS. Any insight regarding the interview process or some potential questions that could help me prepare would be greatly appreciated.
I'll bump this to the top because a certain poster has experience in all of the above and hopefully he will respond. I don't wanna give out his personal info, rather let him find this post. Good luck.
May be too much pressure on the kid to connect at this point, but yah I laughed when I saw this. There was no reason to really reply.
While I obviously will not be as helpful as the aforementioned poster, I've had some experience with trading on ERCOT. Feel free to PM me.
how are you getting ready thus far? What do you know about EDF? Ercot? Real Time trading?
I have done research on EDF and talked with a few different individuals that have previously traded real-time about their experiences. Im trying to get as much info as possible to help me prepare.
Lol this thread cracks me up.
