I came across this article yesterday and found it interesting. I realize it's 10 years old but, it seems these clubs in the city still exist, and I think one of my bosses might be a member at SF Golf Club (although he's very cagey about it). I wonder what the fate of these types of clubs will be, given all the 'new money' around Silicon Valley would probably never want to be associated with these exclusive clubs. My guess is there's a lot of misplaced mystery/conspiracy surrounding some of them, and in reality they're probably just a place for the ultra-wealthy to kick back with a scotch and avoid being badgered about politics.
Of the four clubs profiled, I think the Olympic is really the closest to just a traditional country club... I've never thought of it as particularly exclusive, but more just athletics focused.
Any thoughts? Skull & Bones ftw?
