Employee co-investing in a PE fund with an IRA

I'm starting at a PE fund that allows me to co-invest in the fund, and I was planning on investing through my IRA. PE investing through an IRA can be done as long as it's done through a self directed IRA. HOWEVER, according to the IRS, you can't invest a self directed IRA in something that "accepts unreasonable compensation for managing property or assets held by the IRA".

If I am an employee of a fund, which pays my salary, would I also be able to be invested in the fund through a self directed IRA? Given this IRS rule, I believe not, unless there is a distinction between the the GP and the LP. I could invest in a different PE fund with my IRA, but not the fund I work for.
