Empty CV

Hey guys, as you can probably see I only joined WSO recently because I feel that the time has come for me to take things a little bit more serious now. By next summer I will (hopefully) be done with my masters degree and I want to pursue a career in consulting.

However, my problem is that my CV is completely empty: no internships, no work experience. From what I see around the forum, getting the right internships during your studies (and the corresponding networking) is crucial to get a foot in the door in the consulting industry.

Academics wise, I have a BSc in Economics from a top 10 Econ school in Europe (GPA ~3.6-7ish). I am about to start a MSc in consultancy from a top 10 b-school in Europe.

Based on this information, how do you guys think I should proceed? For now I have applied for a position as an official representative of my masters program at my university. The perks are a letter of recommendation by the faculty and I reckon it will also be good for networking. What should I do after I get my degree? Apply for internships or straight to junior-associate/associate positions?

Do NOT wait, start as SOON as you can to get a part time job or any work and leadership experience. If you can, get in a small consultancy firm but in honestly any firm will do. Any work experience is far far better than no work experience. I found that as soon as I had just 1 week of work on my CV, my confidence was through the roof and many more firms gave me a chance than before.

If you leave it till after your degree it will be too late unless you are truly exceptional -- extracurriculars, leadership roles, etc etc. But even candidates with perfect GPAs will have extra stuff and work experience so not having any can only harm you.
