Equal pay for incoming consultants?
I am an incoming post-undergrad at a prominent non-MBB consulting firm (e.g. ATK, OW, S&, Deloitte, etc.). I am also a returning intern. I am in the U.S.
I noticed that the signing bonus and base salary in my offer are noticeably lower that those shown on Management Consulted dot com. Has anyone ever heard of 1st years receiving different salaries from one another, or of returning interns receiving different salaries than non-returns?
MC dot com is probably incorrect, and I'm probably just paranoid. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this?
How bad is the difference? It could be due to location...in my experience MC.com has been quite close to reality
MC.com has been reliable and accurate in my experience; maybe you are getting the 1st year salary from a year ago, since that's when you entered the pipeline as an intern?
I've heard interns and non-interns get different signing bonuses, especially at the MBA level. I've never heard a salary difference for a post-undergrad or post-MBA consultant unless they come in at a different level (for example, there are people who go MBA > Engagement Manager, although this is typically an arrangement made with a firm in advance).
MC.com is pretty accurate, although not SUPER accurate, especially since signing bonuses for undergrad hires are so low, so a $2k difference could be a 20% swing. How far apart is your offer from MC.com?
MC is usually pretty spot-on for base salary but might miss the mark on benefits (e.g., bonus %, 401k match).
If it's undergraduate and it's off by more than $5k, I'd be worried (are they somehow carrying over your international compensation? International branches pay significantly less for most firms).
