[Excel Question] Automatically update daily Yield/Bond rates
So I'm looking to implement a tool into our proforma to feed our debt assumptions. Typically when we get serious about a deal we start to call our lenders and get quotes on base+spread. Since we usually take 10yr fixed rate debt on all our deals, the vanilla Fannie/Freddie loans usually work for us. That being said, our spreads are pretty consistent, leaving the 10yr Yield for the that day to set the rate.
Question being, is there a way to have a cell or cells that automatically source data from a website that would display these rates? Has anyone implemented something like this? I attempted to use Data>From Web, but couldn't get it to work.
This way whenever I open a new proforma, my daily debt assumptions would be automatically updates. Call me lazy, but I believe in reducing redundancy. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Definitely possibly, but you will need to use VBA to query a website and pull the data into excel, I did this a few yrs ago when doing research but don't have the code..just google it or ask your coder buddies
I unfortunately don't have any coder buddies like that, lol. I tried googling it but all roads led to Data>From Web which was just catastrophic
www.experts-exchange.com is a solid forum for dork programmers willing to help out..there are VBA experts there who know excel
I have been thinking of a way to do this as well. Using the Data>From Web tool worked to import a table of indices that I can link to my debt calculations. In your case, what was the problem? Was the data not updating?
I think my main issue was finding a data source online that didn't have tons of codes/ads/etc. running on the page, that updated daily, and that excel could easily read. It kept on crashing anytime I tried to link it to a website.
Try snaprates.com, its laid out pretty simply in table format.
