Financial Research Analyst (Editorial)

Looking for passionate research analyst for financial media start-up targeting mass affluent investors. Analyst will be a key contributor of articles to the online publishing business and should be both an excellent writer and financial modeler.

Market Realist, a financial media technology start-up backed by a successful fintech entrepreneur is looking for a passionate and entrepreneurial financial analyst with 1-2 years of investment banking or investment research (sell side, mutual fund, hedge fund) experience. Analyst will receive structured training and mentorship in equity research from a multi-billion dollar hedge fund professional.

In the initial phase, the analyst will be asked to join the company on a paid consulting basis. For the right candidate, this will convert into a full-time position at end-of-year.

Industry Expertise: Must have passion for technology or energy/commodity related companies and macroeconomics.

Responsibilities will include:
-Providing comprehensive and high quality coverage of 3-5 industries
-Writing 15+ value-adding 200-400 word research pieces per day on selected companies
-Each research piece will require explanations of drivers and directional value impact
-Editing and updating financial models and industry primers
-Preparing editorial calendar for different industries

Analysts should be able to:
-Simplify complex business models for mass affluent audience
-Describe and quantify both opportunities and risks, including business risk, financial risk, credit risk, commodities risk, and forex impact for both industries and companies in coverage universe
-Evaluate impact of management, company strategy, M&A, spin-offs divestitures on company growth, free cash flows, dividends and cover earnings and major corporate events/actions
-Call industry experts, investor relations, and other members of supply chain to uncover true company performance

Analysts will be expected have experience in the following:
-Microsoft Excel
-Bloomberg or CapitalIQ
-Photoshop & Wordpress experience a plus

Analysts will report to the Editor in Chief, who comes from a $10B+ hedge fund covering equities. The analyst’s goals and bonus will be based on both the quality of analysis and quantity of editorial output.

Full Time Compensation: Market (Competitive Base salary $60-80k + Bonus + Equity)

Pilot Compensation: $500 for two 8-hour sessions + Bonus (up to $100)

Deliverables:
-Resume
-Two 400-600 word research samples describing a company driver (e.g. input price, new product, new technology) and its impact on free cash flows and company valuation
-Research sample should include chart/graph
