Exclude a role I'm leaving early?
Started my grad role about a month ago, in commercial credit at a BB. I'm applying to an IBD grad role at another BB, with a mid year intake, and was wondering if I should include my current role on my resume.
If I do, was just going to say that I didn't realise rotational opportunities weren't going to be offered in my current role and that I'm interested in developing a different skill set.
If I don't, was just going to say I'm travelling for a few months (I've already moved away from my home country).
I'm a recent grad, pretty solid GPA, target college, and two (non IBD) internships in commodities.
Bump
Gaps in resume are never good. Also, your current role may appear on your background check at the new bank. If you say you didn't realize rotations were not offered, why would they think you have the attention to detail for your new job?
Ditto to the above. Doesn't make much sense saying "I joined the firm without knowing about the role" does not look great.
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm worried about. I joined the role because I thought that a) the commercial banking would be more sophisticated b) I was dazzled by the big name and c) I had already interviewed unsuccessfully for the IBD and was worried about being immediately discounted
As long as you can come up with a plausible and acceptable story for why you're leaving, it's not that big of a deal. Just don't make it a pattern.
