Exit Opps into PE from RBC

Hey guys,

So I will be doing RBC IB in NY after graduation, and I'd like to do PE after banking ideally. So which groups at RBC have the best exit opps into PE? Not megafunds, but maybe upper middle market PE?

Simply by the nature of sub groups they should. If RBC's teams are strong enough to place well I can't tell, but that usually just means you need to be more proactive to get interviews.

I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing. See my Blog & AMA

Within Canada they place very well, I've seen everything from top EBs, Canadian pension fund private equity groups (as previously mentioned) and the gamut of private equity (Onex and Birch Hill notably doing American PE style recruiting picking up M&A analysts within their first 6 months).

As for the US, I have less data, but I've seen quite a few go off to solid industry specific HFs and PE shops (think Magnetar, ECP etc.)

Is this lateral common to pull off if you are coming from a MM background and trying to lateral into a BB or EB? Assume you know your stuff and work hard. How should I prepare now if I want to pull it off one year from now? I am now an incoming IB analyst and should I start to check back with my contacts after one year or 8-9 months on the job??

Thank you!
