Expiring Skill Set
According to AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson, your skill set is only worthwhile for two years before it needs an update.
Speaking to college students earlier this week, the Dallas telco's boss again touched on the idea, urging students to adapt even after joining the workforce. "I call it re-tooling and re-skilling because I believe your skill set is two years in duration, max. Mine is two years in duration, max. I’m constantly retooling myself."
Two years is probably an arbitrary number, but I guess it is important to constantly adapt to stay competitive. What are some ways you guys go about "re-tooling" and "re-skilling"? Simple activities like reading more and volunteering, or more tangible things like pursing certifications, etc?
