Facebook Cold Emails

Hey WSO,

I have recently discovered a MM/boutique IBD firm in my area that I am targeting among others to try and get some kind of unpaid internship for the remainder of the summer or to build a relationship for an SA position next summer.

From looking at the linked in profiles of some of the team members I realized that one of the associates actually attended my high school. I found him on facebook easily because of our shared high school network and I was wondering if its appropriate to send a "cold email" by facebook message rather than email? (no email is listed on his fb profile).

What do you monkeys think? If you think its appropriate is there anything different that i should do compared to a regular cold email?

Any advice is appreciated.

nononono fuck no

He only graduated 5 years before me and I have a couple of mutual friends with him. (don't know them very well though). Would you still say its a big no no?

It's even worse if you have mutual friends. If anything, hit up one of your mutual friends and try to bring him up naturally and get an intro that way.

This will be perceived fucking creepy. Fb is for slutty attention whores to put up their antics and for you to keep in touch with friends, not networking to get a job.

Don't listen to kidflash. Alumni LOVE it when you hit them up on FB, comment on their halloween costume pics, and then ask for jobs. Also, make sure to poke him. I made the mistake of not poking a VP once when reaching out and I'm pretty sure it cost me a job.

Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.

If you have mutual friends, just ask them whether they'd be willing to introduce you to him. Alumni requests are usually pretty powerful, especially if you make an effort.

Damn... flake got me. Sorry OP, I was trying to troll you.

P.S. I heard you get to skip first round interviews if you send the alum nudez on fb messenger.

Why don't you do it and tell us how it goes. That way we all know for sure what the result will be.
