Facebook Drops 5.5%, Is it at Risk?

Mark Zuckerberg has just lost $3 bn as the value of FB dropped 5.5%. Investors worry that FB won't be able to maintain its stellar pace. Zuckerberg remains confident:

But don't cry to Zuckerberg. Even with Thursday's decline, Facebook shares are up 15% year to date, besting the 2% rise in the S&P 500 (SPX) index. This means, Zuckerberg's net worth is still up by more than $6 billion in 2016. Plus, during the third quarter earnings report, Zuckerberg reminded that Facebook's "10-year technology roadmap" has only just begun to play out. In other words, he's in this for the long haul.

What do you foresee for FB's future?

Here's the article

FailedMusician:

I foresee a bunch of shitty political posts followed by half as many 'our country is full of idiots for electing this person' posts.

Stock will continue to rise. I will continue to wish I bought the IPO.

Nailed it.

I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing. See my Blog & AMA

Ahhhh we must approach those posts with fire my friend, we shall fight shitty political posts with shitty satirical comments.

Anyhow, I really do wonder if the FB stock will continue to rise, call me a skeptic. Then again, I thought my teacher was an idiot for buying FB stock four years ago as I thought it was a dying platform.

I also wonder that about the Apple stock. How many times can they piss off their consumers before shit goes down the tube.

While I agree, they tend to find a way to get everyone back on their good side.

Facebook is indeed a dying platform. Instagram is covering for it.

Instagram is the only hope for FB now.

whatsapp is very hard to monetize.

Oculus Rift will get burned to ashes by Playstation and Xbox. As a hardcore gamer, I do not expect any bright future for VR anyway, gamers are lazy asses that like to sit for hours next to a TV/computer screen, This is why Nintendo Wii lost popularity, VR in many ways is like 3d, just fun to try and useless to buy.

Facebook's news feed algorithm is what killed it, I dont like anyone picking the order of how I see things, I used to go to Facebook for checking Friends' activity, with the new Algo it is impossible to do so, it is what the Algo wants that puts BBC, CNN, some funny videos that wont stop in Autoplay, very messed up really. I almost know nobody who is active on Facebook anymore.

Ahh the Oculus Rift. I remember the thrill of playing the Wii for the 1st time, interesting that you compare OR to Wii BC my friends talk about it in the same way, I wonder if those who have it feel the thrill go away in similar fashion to the Wii.

I actually buy into every new technology when it is released, I know that I will eventually regret buying-in so early but I dont mind cause im a fan of Technology.

For example, I bought into the Nintendo wii and I liked to play the tennis stuff for example but I eventually got bored from standing up in my living room, and settled on Super Smash Bros Brawl as my go to game on the Wii. In fact, all games like Mario and Zelda, and SSB, which are the main titles of the Wii, don’t need the Wii “Technology”.

I also bought into 3D, with an expensive 3d UHD TV (1,900$), the first two weeks I didn’t stop watching 3d titles and saying waw look at those things coming out of the screen. I eventually got bored from it and never got back to watching 3d again. I still like it, but I don’t care.

VR is the same thing. I got some sort of VR tool for my mobile phone and started testing out some content. I directly realized that there is no way that I will be using this for gaming or exploring other content on a daily basis, no matter how improved it gets. It is definitely a very nice tool but trust me, it is not practical. I believe 2D is the way to go for a very long time.

"I almost know nobody who is active on Facebook anymore."

Me neither. Facebook took the scene for almost 8 years, but everything comes to an end. Zuckerberg should know this, but he doesn't.

It may fail, or worst...I may be substituted. And I hope for that. Zuckerberg is inflexible. I don't think he is able to keep facebook in the limelight, and it is really almost impossible to do so.

I'm loving this forum. Also, the whatsapp thing, they're neglecting tablets till this day. They have lots of problems, and are making it hard for cell companies. So, I guess they're not going too far neither. Along with that, is the fact that democrat politicians are leaving and he'll lose their help. I actually never saw future for people like Zuckerberg in business. Specially with a man like Trump, waiting to see real work from the country. Zuckerberg is potentially lost.

Recently deactivated FB because of the echo chamber of noise - its just become filled with way too much misinformation take as fact and visceral hate on both sides.

I can see many other people doing the same, which isn't good for the company long term. They really need to improve their product but Zucks comments yesterday were more defensive than anything so I don't see changes coming.
