Farallon Capital: more information, do they recruit for banking analysts?
Based on size they are a top notch firm with risk arb/value investment strategies, but for some reason haven't heard them really mentioned here. Anyone know what type of people work for them or if they recruit for banking analysts?
If you gotta ask, you don't have a shot.
To the original poster, Linkedin is often a good resource for this-in 5 minutes I found primarily former BB analysts, a few ex-PE guys, and a former McKinsey consultant. Seems like it's fairly standard in that regards.
Based on their website they run a range of strategies, so there may be different paths depending on the desk.
Eh, not really. I had to ask too, so I know I don't have a shot.
They also do distressed/high yield/leveraged loans. They used to be one of the largest funds at ~$40B, but they got hammered in the crisis. I cover them now and have a few friends there.

Does anybody know how this fund has been performing / how selective it is in comparison to other multi-strategy hedge funds? How many analysts does Farallon hire each year and how long do analysts typically stay at the firm? Any info would be much appreciated.
Very very competitive, one of the best funds in SF. Usually take Ivy League and Stanford guys as far as I know.
think still under high water mark...
Farallon interview help (Originally Posted: 04/14/2010)
Hi all,
I have a first round screening call with Farallon at the end of the week, any tips on what to expect? Was told there would be a brain teaser - any idea what the best way (Farallon specific) to prep for this would be? Although it hasn't been made clear to me, I suspect I'm being considered for the value investments group. PM me if that works better, many thanks in advance.
is this FT or SA
This is for full time, post 2 year IBD analyst stint, thanks.
I was told this was just with HR - so just basic fit questions. I have a screening call tomorrow. Any help would be appreciated thanks
Hey, how did this process go? Curious to hear what types of questions you got beyond the HR screen. TIA
I would be extremely disappointed in the value group if they gave brain teasers to their interviewees.
