Hey! I am a student at an elite GPA with a great customer service background from my jobs in high school and college, but a low GPA. How would I go about getting an internship with Fidelity? it is my dream to work in the financial analyst business. Thanks!
yeah this is just basically glorified customer service.
its going to be bitch work. still, for a sophomore it is a good way to show that you are interested in finance if you can't get anything else

So I have completed the phone interview with Fidelity and have a face-to-face interview later this week. Have any of you guys interned with Fidelity before? Whats the internship, interview process, pay, ect like? Any info helps! Thanks
Questions will be mostly behavioral and situational. There will be some investment related questions, but nothing too deep. Pay is ok, and if you don't have your licenses will be mainly Un-reg rep duties. Great place to learn and especially if you're interested in getting into the FA/FC business.
i'm assuming the same could be said for internships at BlackRock and T Rowe Price?
Thanks TX for the reply. Have you worked as an investment center intern before?
For Fidelity as a broker & @ the Investor Center working w/ a lot of interns.
thanks
and can you touch on the internship itself? seems like i'd be a customer service rep
dewar god GUYS
Pretty much, but you get a lot of insight on what goes on behind the scenes. Sit in on some account & portfolio reviews as well as the job of IR's & AR's. It's a great opportunity to see what the end user side of the industry is like & what they have to deal with. Which center are you interviewing for?
Del Mar, CA pretty much San Diego. Sounds good. Im trying to weigh out my options. Currently i'm an M&A analyst at a boutique making shit pay. Fidelity name is much more reputable and the pay is better, I just dont wanna back track my experience.
Fidelity was a great company. Hours were awesome at the IC's, even when there were presentations, hours never really were more than 55/week on avg. Name is great, but if you're trying to get in as an analyst, working in the IC may not be choice #1.
Interviewed at Fidelity this week in Boston. Really nice people, you can tell they all actually liked working there.
Thanks for all the responses! How was your interview Hinkle? and what position were you applying for?
Thats exactly what I was thinking...customer service. I have other other offer options but i know fidelity is a good brand so what should i do?
Depends on what your other options are. If they are FO roles, I would definitely take them.
if they aren't... as a sophomore, getting Fidelity on your resume will be a great look for junior year SA. you'll be ahead of the game for sure.
they are def not FO roles sadly. Im from a non target. One is for Phillip Van Heusen in their Financial reportings department. And the other is at Deloitte In the "Discovery Program" where we do a bunch of shit sophmore summer and then you concentrate on whatever it is you like jr summer. I would probably pick consulting if i took that route
actually, deloittes discovery program would also look good on your resume. for a sophomore, I'd definitely say that's your best bet.
now i'm not positive what roles the "discovery program" includes. but if it is what i think it is, I think you would actually be doing more interesting stuff than fidelity, which won't really be a great talking point in future interviews. (other than.. "Hey fidelity - good firm!? what'd you do there!?!? Oh. I see.)
Deloitte is also a solid name, and any program like that will usually have GPA cutoffs, more selectivity due to volume - generally something people will get right away when they see "Deloitte Discovery Internship Program"
the exposure you get will be much better for this program, and it will also give you a chance to explore consulting to see if you enjoy it. you'll meet other people on the program and go out with them, so i imagine it would be more fun than working in a call center for fido.
i have friends who work for Deloitte consulting, and i work in finance so let me know if you have any other questions
thanks i will do some research and ill get back to you with some questions if i have any
I interned at Fidelity and I think it really helped open some doors for me even though the experience was not related to finance. It's a really solid shop and as a sophomore it is hard for you to go wrong there.
I read your posts alot and I know your a top.contributer on this site. With that being said, what type of role does this sound like?
Sounds very much like a customer service type role --- either responding to customer requests via phone or typed communication. It will probably involve substantial administrative work (filing, data entry, etc.) and likely won't require much independent thought. That said -- as a sophomore there are few internships available that give you "true" experience and therefore going for a strong brand name is often your best bet.
