Final Round Interview Question Feedback Needed

Had a 1st round interview with a Manager for a Tech Firm last week, and a day later received a call back to come in for a 2nd round interview with the Department Head who after 10 mins of talking with offered me the job and I graciously accepted (Verbal offer). Now, the question is, since our meeting was only 10 mins, I am pretty sure her mind was made up even before our meeting. Do I need to send a "thank you" note or would it sound redundant since I already thanked her in person and told him i was thrilled about the offer.

* Also she did tell me that I would hear from her early this week regarding next steps paper work etc.

First off, always send a thank you note. If you must think about it, at least think about it like this: it doesn't hurt at all to send it as no one will think you're kissing ass by sending a thank you email/note, but if you don't send it, it could look like a slight and even if the department head is a few levels above you, she'll be your boss (or boss' boss). I still send follow up thank you notes when I've met someone that I'm asking for something from or who's done something for me: for money, to buy their company, a banker for showing me a good deal, whatever.
