Flying with Guns into California for our trip -- Anyone with experience?
Hey guys, I'm flying to Cali (LAX airport) this weekend with a VP to meet with a client on Monday, where, unfortunately, the security surrounding our meeting will be particularly "sensitive" with this client.
I have a registered shotgun (barrel size and type confirmed to be legal in CA) that I'd like to place in a metal container to ship with me to CA.
I just got off the phone with United Airlines and they told me that it would be "no problem" to fly with the guns in checked baggage and told me I had about 6 forms to fill out, along with a bunch of background checks by CA govt once we're on the ground but she didn't know the specifics. But it's legal and feasible.
However I've done my research and heard some real horror stories of people legally flying guns into CA (including getting their guns stolen during checkup) or having their guns suddenly withheld for a month at LAX. If it can get that complicated, i'd rather just buy a new one in Cali.
SO -- anyone with experience flying a gun into CA? is it worth the hassle?
My question is, why are you bringing a shotgun to meet with a client? Takes "always be closing" to a whole new level.
All I could think is, wtf? I live about 15 min from LAX.... I don't know anything about flying with guns though... Two questions:
1) what the hell kind of business do you do, drug dealing?
2) are you the security?
1) Drug dealing/other illegal activities --> Hell no. The client and his family have had incidents in the past and whatever his dealings are or who's ["they"] after him, it's none of my business. I just care our deal goes through. "They" don't seem to care about collateral damage apparently, given some life-threatening events in the past.
2) I'm an analyst.....the client usually has private security but he doesn't want them overhearing details about a deal or, worse, leak his location to a paying party (as a private-eye he hired a few years back had revealed).
i know, this all sounds scary as shit and not really what I had signed up for but a deal is a deal. Also, I've heard worse (esp from a classmate who is now a lawyer lol). Dont worry about me -- i just wanted to know if anyones gone through LAX with guns
This has got to be a joke. Do you have training in providing security?
First, carrying a shotgun around LA is not exactly the most efficient or effective form of firearm for personal protection. Second, if your client really cares about discretion and safety he's probably not going to be cool with some "excel nerd" analyst lugging a shotgun around.
Why do you assume firearm ownership implies drug dealing?
Sounds like he's gonna make an offer they can't refuse.
Dude, your boss is fucking with you.
Hahaha I wish, man. We've had this client for over a year now and I've worked with him for most it
This meeting sounds epic. I'm picturing it like that scene in the Dark Knight with the Joker and all the gangsters
I would personally go with something smaller than a shotgun...walking into the meeting with shotgun isn't very.... low key
