Favorite Substance and Why?
Gents,
Off topic and just out of curiosity. Being a first-generation American with strong European roots, I have always found it fascinating which substances people use to get through the week, enjoy the weekend, wake up in the morning, or fall asleep at night. ESPECIALLY here in America. Probably because of the wide variety of lifestyles I have noticed. Especially in NYC. I am curious what your guys' favorite are? And no I am not referring to just ones that are deemed as hip or that sexily do not fit within the realm as being legal. Some anecdotes of things I have noticed whilst in finance:
- One dude was so into tea that I am confident he had at least 3 different types every day for different moods and occasions. Black to wake up, green to ease the after lunch sugar crash, and cham to calm him at night
- I've met more "unconventional"(I say that tongue in cheek because, and not to get political, but it's just pot lol) pot bros in finance than I would have expected. Many top performers I have met regularly enjoy a puff, almost every day, although, and not that I know for a fact, usually just at night.
- One lady, I worked with had 8 coffees every single day. Without them, she was actually very calm and much more pleasant. And when I mean without, I mean HF according to my buddy who went to school with him. And no he did not leave the office to record those above rookie numbers...
- And lastly, a kid I worked alongside a few years ago at an internship at a European bank, would have ridiculous amounts of sweets each day. It was not uncommon to see him have 3 or 4 bags of M&Ms. Weirdly enough he was one of the smartest and leanest (physique wise) guys I have met while in industry. Just quite hyper when indulging... which was every day.
So what oddities have you guys noticed on a substance basis? Or what is your pref? This isn't meant to insult or be judgemental btw. Where I'm from it's a very much "you do you" mentality. Looking forward to some stories and hopefully laughs!
Cheers
cocaine's a hell of a drug
no one on here does illegal drugs,
but I do love my Target-brand La Croix. I keep an 8pack under my desk at all times.
https://www.target.com/p/cucumber-mint-sparkling-water-8pk-12-fl-oz-can…
that's a whole other conversation, what's the best la croix flavor?
Target Brand cucumber-mint, especially at 3 bucks for an 8 pack.
If I have to pick a real la croix flavor, I would go with Berry.
whatever costco happens to be carrying. one time, we ran out of lacroix and my wife expressed genuine concern about dying of thirst. this bitch forgot people drink tap water
I like Lime
peach-pera
FIZZ
water
Well I ate Xanax every day for five years. I started sometime around my senior year of high school and ended after my 'ternship at a BB in NYC ended and I was so relived to have not gotten an offer. I'm not sure what I did in the intervening five years, I think I got a degree from a state school...
There was plenty of coffee and modafinil as well, to get me up in the morning and keep me up throughout the day. I know lots of other bankers who use modafinil, both at work and after work. Vitamins and tea sound like a placebo to me.
But the ultimate substance is ice. Chewing ice. I chewed ice all 10 weeks like a lunatic. Chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp >>> get up and walk over to the ice machine, ERRRRREEREGEGEGLPLUNKPLUNKUNK >>> swipe card > open door >>>> smile at other 'terns as I walk back to desk >>> chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp ICE ICE BABY
wtf?
Ha, I cringed a bit picturing this. Ice chewing is pretty hard on the teeth. There's a bit of a risk that you could chip/break your teeth if done often enough, but it seems that hasn't been the case with you. Carry on!!
Xanax, never remember.
Coffee (extra espresso) - I will have in the morning to give extra boost
Performix TCP - If I need the extra push to get through studying for certification exams or anything else that requires laser sharp focus and heightened ability to recall information and memory
I highly recommend the Performix TCP for anyone who needs that extra push. It's a nootropic and truly increases your cognitive ability. If you are studying for an exam you will be able to sit in front of your computer and focus for hours. It helps with being able to retain/recall information as well. Good stuff.
I'm curious about Performix TCP and that whole category of brain vitamins... Do they give you a feeling that is similar to some sort of stimulant? I've always been skeptical about those kinds of supplements and the Amazon reviews for them partially back me up... but still, now that I'm on the (painfully) clean and sober track in life I want there to be something that can give me an edge. Is it like coffee without jitters? Or adderall without the rush? I'm curious... thanks
Everyone is different so if you try something new I would recommend trying in small portions at first. I personally haven't experienced any side effects and even so, I will only buy several individual packets (maybe 5-10 servings at a time if I need it) rather than an entire carton. Also I am active with working out and staying fit so I assume that could be a factor of not experiencing any side effects.
I have never tried any other cognitive supplements other than coffee so I don't really have any frame of reference.
But let's just say when I was studying for the CPA exam and it was close to my test date, I was literally burnt out and the information was just not sticking. I would sit staring at the computer screen and coffee no longer kept me awake.
I bought the stuff from GNC and used it the next day. Sat through an entire 3 hour practice test and killed it. I was like zoned into the computer screen and was able to recall information on questions I normally would have gotten bogged down on.
It's a good clean feeling too, no jitters whatsoever. Just don't take it on or before lunchtime unless you plan on staying up late.
It totally reminds of the movie Limitless, without any negative side effects.
I just buy individual packets though because I don't want to become dependent on it, not that it has addictive qualities or anything, just would rather use it short-term than having it to use and not need it.

You sound like you have a really hard time getting laid...
I love alpha brain, new mood, and t+ from Onnit.
I also have been drinking Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee, it has been an amazing substitute for coffee.
Four Sigmatic? Someone's been listening to Tim Ferriss. In all seriousness though, that stuff is awesome. I'm big on matcha green tea. Use it every morning for energy and doesn't provide the crash like coffee.
Try Qualia's mind product
Brain Force Plus and The Real Red Pill
Ganja Sensimilla, I don't drink coffee or energy drinks or take any supplements.
Pre-work, during or after? Guess they don't call it high finance for nothing!
After work
Workout in the morning kickstarted by preworkout usually is enough for me
Got a favorite preworkout?
I like C4, haven't really tried many others though
Lit at GNC is really good (I used to work at a supplement store for years in college).
I like stimul8 a lot. can buy it at gnc
ON has good one. Just called "Preworkout," though their Amino Energy does well to keep you from the preworkout crash.
Klean BCAA
I miss the old Jack3d circa 2009.
Nitraflex, Fruit Punch
I love it
Snow for sure. Too bad it can kill you
Green tea for health benefits
Prefer the unconventional stuff. Mainly some homemade tincture in my nightly tea or wine.
I drink 2 liters minimum of organic coconut water everyday, my entire fridge is stocked full. Haven't drank anything else since I started working.
Not to toot my own horn but as a Division 1 athlete, taking drugs as a result of stress/pressures of work is laughable. Health is wealth.
Does this actual work? What is the thinking behind this?
I liked what he had to say until I saw the username. ;)
https://draxe.com/is-coconut-water-good-for-you/
its much tastier than water and since i can afford it, why not?
This really rings true. Health IS wealth, and a fat salary will never make up for waking up depressed and in pain every day. It's common knowledge that plenty people in the industry frequently use ADHD medications, namely Adderall/Vyvanse, Ritalin, etc. (with or without a prescription, but in the States it's not exactly hard to get one) to keep them sharp for 12+ hours on end. In the short term, sure, this is probably safer than blow or 3-4 Red Bull's a day (and also much more potent), but that's also assuming you're consistently taking it the way your doctor prescribed you to. For many people, however, when 80+ hour work weeks get involved, your life will be anything but consistent and you'll be abusing it in the long-term (>1 year), leaving you an empty shell on your way to a nuclear burnout. As hippy as this sounds, nothing beats enough sleep (6+ hours, since 7-8 might be unrealistic for many), regular exercise, a healthy diet AND as mentioned above, plenty of water everyday (actually makes a huge difference, try sticking to at least 2L a day and you'll notice the benefits quick). Besides, if you're making a good salary, why not treat yourself with a membership to a nice gym, drop $3k+ on a proper latex / memory foam mattress and pillows (I mean you sleep at least 25% of your life anyways, may as well make it nice), and one of those subscription services where they send the ingredients necessary to a customized meal plan every week. Lastly, assuming you live
Agreed brother. I see my colleagues falling at the seams. The willpower that you use to work a long hour and stressful job should also be implemented with diet and workout.
Well said mate. This is different to what your saying but everyone imo comes across a crap time mentally in their life and what determines how they bounce back is their resilience through therapy etc and not substances
Sex
I'm pretty pedestrian:
Coffee. Nothing fancy: light roast when I need more caffeine, dark roast when I want more flavor. Morning and early afternoon.
Seltzer water. I drink Polar Seltzer throughout the day (various flavors).
Alcohol. Beer or whisky (peaty scotches preferred). A drink or two at night.
I've also developed a sweet tooth within the last few years. Cookies, pies, cakes, cupcakes, donuts, danish, scones, truffles, chocolates, etc. Can't get enough. Luckily I've managed to avoid becoming a fatass through willpower and working out.
love the sugar. I'm becoming a fatass. help.
Careful with the sugar, i used to eat whatever, and I workout a shitload to offset it, which was fine until I tore my Achilles working out... your appetite adjusts a lot slower than you metabolism... I gained 45 lbs in 2 months laying in bed because I couldn’t workout anymore. It took me a good 2 years to drop that shit and my diet had to change, really sucked.
-Coca tea from peru
-Micro dosing psilocybin, let's hope this passes in CA http://www.newsweek.com/psychedelics-california-could-become-first-stat…
-strong dose of edibles once a month to just mind dump, dig around my subconscious and get all my ideas / thoughts on paper
what do the coca tea and microdoses of psilocybin do for you?
coca tea is a nice bump in energy, though my supply is out so i'm back to coffee
psilocybin micro dose... i'll do it in the evening and go for a long walk. get the nice body high and my mind is very aware / clean which allows me to creatively work through big ideas / topics circling in my head.
A nice high from marijuana can do this too, but mind is always a big foggier vs mushrooms
First thing in the morning: 1 scoop ON preworkout, one scoop ON Amino Energy (to kill the crash), and some DAA to get angry (also I have low test)
Post gym: brotein shake- protein, creatine, flax meal, hemp heart, cocoa powpow, Coach's oats, peanut butter powder scoop, and flavor shits like naners and strawberries. I might chug a Yakult if my stomach hurts, or pop a moda if I'm tired or have a lot to do that day. Only halfsies though, a full one will make me super productive but then I'm kinda burnt the rest of the week.
Get to work: Coffee, zipfizz, costco 5hr energy thing, or amino energy. I add a little piracetram if I need to think that day, and L-Theanine if I'm getting the shakes. At this point I'm usually feeling real good because I bike 7mi into work and take a cold shower after arrival.
During work: maybe a refill, but mostly the coldest damn water I can get. If I eat a big lunch (GAINZ) I'll have another dose of caffiene to avoid the food coma.
Home: Chamomile tea, an advil or two if sore, and either melatonin and if I'm actually gonna get 8hrs of sleep some nyquil too. Maybe some DAA for dem sweet dreams, or if I know I'm going to be shirtless in front of a hottie within a week.
Weekends: It varies so much I can't even try to say. It's safe to say I drink an average of 20 alcoholic drinks if I'm drinking that weekend, and some caffiene to keep me awake.
I used to be super into the multi-vites, but that's slowed down over time I guess. I'll probably start that up again soon.
I play around with different things and cycle frequently, my current setup has too much uppers and downers to be a long-term solution, but it feels good for now so I fucks wit it.
Ginger root pills (2) for headaches Turmeric Curcumin for joint pain, anti cancer Cinnamon in the coffee for metabolism and lower blood sugar Magnesium pills (1) for the eyes
Dipt Dmt 5-meo-dmt Plateau sigma dxm
hows that dimitri game treating ya brah
plateau sigma lmao... fuck that. everything else +1
On a daily basis I consume enough drugs to sedate Manhattan, Long Island, and Queens for a month. I take Quaaludes 10-15 times a day for my “back pain”, Adderall to stay focused, Xanax to take the edge off, pot to mellow me out, cocaine to wake me back up again, and morphine… Well, because it’s awesome.
On a daily basis I drink enough coconut water to hydrate all of Manhattan
Doubt it, there's some thirsty ass hoes out there
nothing beats clean coke
Jesus
woah there buddy, you better slow it down
not even jesus beats it
addy for busy days and need to grind. pre workout for slow days and want to go to the gym. kava at nights in.
I fucking hate kava. It tastes like donkey shit and barely has an effect.
edited.
Espresso and smoothie before work,
Coffee and Berocca when I get in,
Always have a full glass of water by my side all day,
Tea in the afternoon for a normal day or coffee for a later shift
Every two months I trip on LSD. Shrooms once a semester. Yes, I trip balls. Couldn't manage an office without going insane from time to time.
Coffee before leaving home and then green tea/water for the rest of the day. Used to drink coffee throughout the morning but have noticed improvement in sleep and general state of mind since switching to tea.
probably Adderall
Caffeine + low carb high fat diet
We had two bags of grass, 75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.
First of all, huge on water. Drink at least a gallon a day without fail. Feel like shit unless I'm aggressively hydrated.
Since I've started working my caffeine intake has skyrocketed. Usually end up doing a wake-up cup on the way to work, mid-morning cup, two espresso shots post-lunch and a large Starbucks in the late afternoon. No pre-workouts though. I can't have too much at one time, need to space it out or I crash hard.
In terms of fun drugs, I basically stick to booze and blow. I try to have relatively few nights out but make them count. Coke is my bad habit. I just feel so fucking nice. Good thing I don't have an addictive personality or I'd be fucked. I do try to separate the nights though to reduce heart risk and because quite frankly drinking is a waste when you're nice and cheesed. Going out like once a week, I don't suffer too many adverse health or productivity risks from occasional coke and binge drinking either which is nice.
Haven't smoked for a couple years because I started feeling really dumb and slow, and I will never try psychedelics because I know way too many people who've had bad experiences.
Vitamin D, ZMA supps, and Creatine.
Caffeine is redundant with the first two and a good sleep routine. Last one is for that perma pump.
What ZMA do you use? Lately I’ve been thinking about giving zma a try
Allmax.
http://www.allmaxnutrition.com/products-type/zmx2/
Burritos, they are delicious
Bang by vpx.... All college athletes live off caffeine lol
I never have less than 50 packets of Emergen-C at my disposal. Chug the power dry. The fizzy aftertaste is awesome. Extra bonus points when I tell people it's the hottest new raspberry flavored coke.
Bourbon and branch water, because of purity of essence.
Shot of pre-workout after my breakfast of scrambled eggs and protein pancake mix. Drink with as little water as possible cause it makes it kick in that much harder
Just snort it!
For those who want to plummet to the bottom of the pile, following the advice of those snorting and popping chemicals will get you there. And while you might be wiling to take that dive, there is a better way to climb to and stay on the top of the performance curve. Meditate. Theres' a reason the fictional Billions Bobby a/k/a Axe hedge fund guru meditates. It's been proven to build the part of the brain that enables you to keep your cool in the face of market jitters or stress. So if you want to keep your frontal brain in the game and to build brain structures that keep you smart and enable resilience, meditate.
I've been skimming through the comments and am surprised to see no one drinks red bull! Does really no one drink Red Bull?!?!
You should probably stop
I take ashwagandha (an adaptogenic herb) for stress relief and melatonin at night to help me get to sleep. I also take a magnesium supplement daily.
Only two rules when addressing my favorite substance: 1. Stay away from my fucking Percocets. 2. And do you have any fucking Percocets.
Currently a student, so just coffee and tea for me, the shit you guys listed above kinda scare me though...
Water for me, coffee for late nights (once or twice per week) and a glass or two of red wine on the weekends.
Don't worry, I swear every guy above 30 in high finance does coke in my country
Milk. I almost always get a cup of milk at the office before I start working.
The 3 Cs - all you ever need.
Checks cash Cristal?
"I work half the time you do, I know you must hate this! Hold up, I'm 'bout to put you in a 2x2 matrix!"

OP asks about favorite drugs and everyone starts listing their favorite pre workout... Jesus Christ that is disappointing.
Welcome to the era where people born in 2000 are coming of age....
Did you bother to read the post? OP was definitely not explicitly asking only about drugs...
Matcha tea is cool
Honestly, I'm a big fan of big pharma. Addy, oxy, and xanies. Love em.
I'm definitely a fan of pot as well. About 2-3 blunts a day.
I like to do acid once or twice a year. I find it nice to take a look at things in a different view. Maybe it's artificial, maybe not, but it is usually a meditative experience for me.
I've kinda grown to hate alcohol tbh. Barring some wine at a nice dinner or maybe a few beers, not much of a drinker anymore.
Wow very surprised to not see anyone mention ketamine here yet
Red Man (America's best chew)
I like green tea and niacin
Is brilliant how many substances I ever tried in order to go through tough exams, internship or for gym only. To be fair, I would say that it mainly depends on what is your actual goal. I mean, if you want extra-pump, energy or something else. Anyway, you shouldn't go without vitamine B6 and B12. Other mix are given by beta alanine, niacine, arginine, citrulline, rhodiola, over the classic caffeine, thaurine and guaranà. Also, you can get tribulus in order to increase your libido level. All of these are natural and cannot be addictive, although you know, you can use them for a limited range of time

wtf? do these harm your body? This is not fair if you take it in college. They make you smarter and outperform other students. Is this why a lot of people get higher grades than I do? They hack, cheaters
And yes, it's cheating and it's bad for you.
thats not fair thats why they outperform me. Should I try one of these?
Watch Requiem for a Dream. Your decision will be easier after.
Not sure if these comments are serious or not.
If taking adderal will help you get a better grade, take it. You'd be surprised how many college kids take it, you might as well keep up with the competition
Remember.. Nice guys finish last
"Cocaine's a helluva drug"
Don't do drugs! Lloyd Blankfein is watching you.
meth in your coffee, serious
Hey man, you supposed to be educated, going to community college and shit. Come on Stringer, you know better.
adderall
and a lot of weed
ludes and coke all day bro
Does anybody know if adderall is as widespread in the UK as it is in the US?
Xanax isn't lorazepam. Not gonna bother to keep reading. Half-assed article
Edit: Okay, I kept reading. Cocaine before caffeine?

Focus Pill (Originally Posted: 02/08/2016)
Hey monkeys!
I am looking for legal, healthy and over the counter pills that will help with focus. I was just wondering if anyone had a good experience with a particular product. If you have, please shoot me a message.
Thanks
Adderall. Kids are popping them like candies these days at most Ivys, so I'd imagine getting a prescription is about as hard as buying alcohol as a minor.
Look for a fat burner called Black Widow.
Black Mamba also works in a similar fashion
It won't help you focus but a B12 supplement after lunch will keep you from hitting that mid-afternoon lull.
B12, caffeine, healthy diet, cardio/exercise are the best legals. Adderall or another derivative are legal with prescriptions that are insanely easy to get, and if you're a student, you probably know two dozen people with prescriptions. There are other illegals, but you'd have use the deep web/cryptocurrency/test it -- not worth it.
In all seriousness though, just workout and eat well for a week and see how you feel. It's probably more than enough, and you don't want to get hooked on any stimulants.
Heard NZT48 is pretty decent
Piracetam and Choline, the elite of the elite know about this potent stuff
modafinil
Nootropics might be what you are looking for. I'm interested but am too cash strapped to get into them yet. Heard good things about 'Rise' from Nootrobox though.
I'd recommend green tea extract (particularly the l-theanine). Personally works well for me.
If we're talking legal, I'd recommend Modafinil. Do your own research, mod works differently from person-to-person.
When you're talking about prescription-strength stuff, I think you want to remember that the negative effects generally correspond with the positive effects. Also, everyone's body is different and could have a different response to the same substance. Adderall and modafinil can work great, but can come with a cost, especially if you're taking them consistently.
For natural/over-the-counter, I like Smart Caffeine (caffeine/theanine, I know lioncub mentioned the later above). I keep it in my briefcase and it gives me a boost without ever feeling jittery or over-caffeinated. CILTEP also works for me (ok as is, but great when combined with caffeine or Smart Caffeine), but I have noticeable negative effects if I take it too often, so I don't usually use it more than a couple times a week. It's also nice that it works all day.
Just keep in mind that there's no free lunch - supplements can give you that extra when you need it, but aren't a substitute for motivation, interest in what you do, etc.
That is why using Piracetam and Choline is so effective, research on longecity and you will see how beneficial these two are. These actually have a snowball effect and improve cognition over time instead of serving as a short term fix like a band aid (caffeine/adderall/etc.)
From my experience with nootropics, Alpha Brain has to be the best. It provides a non-jittery focus for hours on end with zero side effects (slight constipation if taken without food). I even sleep better when I take it.
have to take more than a couple pills for alpha brain to work - not the most economical
Got terrible hives after 2+ days of no sleep and 200mg of Modafinil in my body. There is a risk of SJS (super gross), but it's rare. Otherwise, I'd recommend it.
EC stack.
Its a bodybuilding supplement. 200mg of Caffeine and then 25mg of ephedra (Found in Bronkaid and Primatene) which is OTC bronchal dialaotrs.
3X a day.
It'll get you focused and help burn fat as a thermogenic.
Nitrovit works well. it is a nootropic so it's non-addictive and no side effects.
Dude dont take any pre formulated nootropics like alpha brain they are a waste of money and underdosed, the most powerful and safe nootropic is Piracetam, it is used to treat dementia in russia because it improves cognitions so vastly
caffeine pills. and caffeine in general. I think the best time to drink a coffee is right after lunch. When I wake up in the morning I'm already pretty alert.
Side question: For those of you who also lift weights, have any of you guys felt silly enough to experiment taking a pre-workout and NOT working out? i.e. for the purposes of getting an energy boost. This is probably a terrible idea.
I ask because I've tried various pre-workouts (Pre-Jym) that keep me absolutely wired, without jitters, for the rest of the day after the gym. This is probably not a sustainable / healthy long-term solution tho.
few do, myself included (pre-jym), and it makes perfect sense to do so
I take PWO for the gym and have actually heard of some people using it for work, so it can't be totally uncommon.
If you are planning on taking one, make sure it's focused on giving you energy and not a pump. A good example is the PWO's "Dr.Jekyll" and "Mr.Hyde" (names of actual PWO's btw). Dr.Jekyll has a lot of beta-alanine, which will give you a good pump in the gym but won't do much for your energy levels. This is what you don't want. Beta-alanine will just irritate you and make you feel itchy all over if you're not using it to work out or if you take too much.
What you want is Mr.Hyde, which basically has a lot of caffeine in it to give you energy and no beta-alanine or other ingredients to give you a pump. The idea is to take a little of Jekyll and Hyde together if you're working out, but obviously you would just take the Hyde if for work. Just be advised that a serving of Hyde has over 400mg of caffeine I believe, which puts it at drinking around 3 cups of coffee. But you'll get a ton of energy.
Any suggestions for ones which work without caffeine? I'm very sensitive to caffeine and it gives me stomachaches - to the surprise of all my summer internship bosses, I am perfectly fine without it.
Thanks for the all of the input guys. I really appreciate it.
Popping Pills to Perform... (Originally Posted: 07/18/2012)
This may come as a shocker to some of you (sarcastic tone) but there may be rampant use of prescription medications in your office. Look around, how many of your office peers could be diagnosed with ADD or severe anxiety? Issues that require medication for legitimate reasons should not be judged, however, a growing trend indicates the use of medication is not based on diagnosis but on need to perform on the job. A recent article published by The Harvard Business Review highlighted this growing trend of pill popping in the office (cs/2012/06/should_your_boss_encourage_you.html">Should Your Boss Encourage You to Take Drugs).
So, why are prescription medications flourishing? Is it the pressures of the job or the culture of the employment world? Should your boss “pressure” you into taking prescription medications to perform? In any case, the use of medication should be reserved for the impaired, not the disingenuous. Natural feelings of anxiety or lack of concentration should not be a cause for an (rx) script; these mental and physical reactions are again, natural, more or less the body’s reaction to keeping us on our toes. So do yourself a favor, next time you have an interview, a big presentation, or can’t stay focused on the job, seek a much safer alternative to popping a “magic” pill.
So, what are the alternatives? Here’s 3 of the safest, most effective ways to stay focused and energized on the job:
(1) Sleep; affects cognitive abilities and energy levels. So, to ensure on the job performance make sure you catch enough zzz’s.
Tip 1 Keep away from electronics before bed.
Tip 2 Refrain from caffeinated beverages and that late night cocktail.
Tip 3 Try and get 7-8 hours of sleep on a regular basis.
Tip 4 Have a pre-bed routine. Wind down, detach, and relax.
(2) Exercise;
(Forbes. Nevermind your Abs-Tone Your Brain).Tip 1 Workout 3-4 times per week.
Tip 2 Mix some aerobic exercise with strength training. Optimize your time by doing high intensity interval training. Here’s a few workouts from Menshealth.com that can help you get started.
Interval Training Workout Strength Training Workout
Tip 3 If hitting the gym isn’t your thing try something different; yoga, dancing, racquet ball, tennis, kayaking, swimming, ping pong…
(3) Eat Healthy; Nutritional health counselor Penny Klatell suggested busy professionals consider eating themselves to more consistent energy levels.
(Inc. How to Eat for All-Day Energy).Tip 1 Eat a solid breakfast to start the day.
Tip 2 Eat every few hours including snacks in between meals.
Tip 3 Focus on meals with protein and complex carbs.
These are just a few alternatives to help you perform on the job without the need for pill popping. In any case, lets here some feedback from you guys. What are your experiences with office meds? Do you have any other alternatives or tips for performing on the job?
Totally expecting this to be about dudes not getting it up lol
This may come as shocker to you (sarcastic tone), but this has been posted about multiple times.
The most effective alternative to "popping" performance enhancing pills is railing them.
This is the most generic post I've ever seen on here. Sleep, exercise and eat healthy? Are you serious? Isn't this common knowledge that every mom teaches her children from an early age? Do we really need a front page post for this?
I'm literally snickering out loud in my office. What morons we've all been -- working 100+ hours a week, popping those mean nasty pills, pumping our bodies full of unnatural stimulants, when what we REALLY should do for maximum performance is to leave the office early to make sure we're getting our 7-8 hours of beauty sleep.
Know what? I'll just walk out right now.
Don't worry, Mr. Boss Man, when I roll in tomorrow with clear sparkling eyes and a bounce in my step, you won't care that none of your changes got turned and that you now have no product to show the board of X company. I'll just start in with my newly-tuned productivity and get it done twice as fast.
Oh wait... except I have to get to the gym by noon in order to get my natural high and keep my brain in top condition. Do you think the board could just push their meeting back a few days? We can just explain to them that we'll get started on that work product as soon as we've completed our ping-pong matches and pre-bed routines.
Love it. This made my day.
try popping an adderall before your next blog post and see what happens.
Lol. I don't condone encouraging taking drugs. But I admit this made me laugh.
As for the exercise portion -- I work out 5-6 days a week and I tell you that it does NOT give you the superhuman powers :) that Ritalin / Adderall does -- it's not even comparable no matter what research is presented. Sure these things help an overall healthy balance of life, but they don't replace the advantages that 'pills' provide for me.
Can someone please tell me what the actual side effects of using adderall? I use it quite often and it works great, the only real down side for me at least is that I'm a but anti-social on it, just wanting to get my work done/not waste time.
It seems that the 2 main claims for people that oppose it are: 1. Its not safe, I dont want to use drugs 2. It puts people without access to adderall at a disadvantage
I can understand the puts people at a disadvantage part, although that is a quick fix if you have health insurance (not to difficult getting a prescription these days) and of course, just getting it from somebody else.
But whats the deal with the negative connotation of the adderall as a hard drug, like your injecting heroine or railing coke? Yes its a controlled substance, but how often do you see doctors prescribing daily doses of heroine to school children?
So back to the point, are there any real health side effects that need to be considered when using adderall?
You could Google that shit. But if you want a real-life perspective, here's what I think the risks are:
Cardiac arrhythmia, cardiac exhaustion. Spending all day every day with your heart pumping 110+ beats per minute is not ideal. It's easy to ignore that little unsettling moment when your heart responds by doing something weird for a sec, since nobody likes to be reminded that the whole shebang rides on a small and specialized muscle in your chest. The question should arise, though: "How many more of those little blips do I get before the big one?"
Nourishment. In the super-long run, taking this stuff at high doses every day for ten years or more, it's going to be really hard to stay properly nourished. You got delayed gastric emptying, loss of appetite: you won't be eating as much nor as healthily. Forcing down the wad of salad and then digesting the fibrous mass painfully over a period of many hours is not going to happen every day.
Nothing else long-term, IMO. There are many more short-term health effects. Many of them can be managed by (guess what) other prescription drugs.
If you're thinking about it, I would recommend using only when needed, and on 50% or fewer of days.
Well, like most drugs, it's highly addictive: "The D.E.A. lists prescription stimulants like Adderall and Vyvanse (amphetamines) and Ritalin and Focalin (methylphenidates) as Class 2 controlled substances — the same as cocaine and morphine — because they rank among the most addictive substances that have a medical use." NY Times article: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/10/education/seeking-academic-edge-teena…
I tried it, made me too jittery and gave me serious headaches without really improving anything. I just use my "Stop fckin dckin around and get your sh*t done now!" inner voice... works just as well, without side-effects.
One long term effect I know of is increased motivation.
I know, terrible for you...
When not taken, taking a sh*t is pretty tough.
Adderall is a wonder drug and it goes together with investment banking (or any long-houred profession) like PB & J.
Certainly played a big part in my undergrad studies.
GETTING A MENTAL EDGE OVER YOUR COMPETITION - What do you think about Nootropics? (Originally Posted: 03/19/2016)
All!
My team and I have been working with a number of professors, professional athletes, wall street, and silicon valley professionals over the past couple years to test and develop a pill containing what we think will be the optimal formulation of caffeine, vitamins, and core nootropics.
Our team is well funded and has finalized everything but the design. I hope you'll help us choose it here: https://99designs.com/product-label-design/vote-8q0yze
I've been experimenting with nootropics for a few years now and have started to notice that more and more people on the street have been taking them predominately for energy and mental clarity. In response to this trend we've started to see more and more supplements on the market aimed at this niche.
Is there a stack/product out there working well for all of you?
I honestly don't really think they work. For some, maybe some placebo effect. Traditional "study aides" are still king.
Train by day, Joe Rogan podcast by night. All day.
Honestly a couple of cups of green tea seems to be working just great for me.
What's your (chemical) vice/crutch? (Originally Posted: 09/19/2012)
Anything aside from Caffeine?
What is it? Alcohol? Tobacco - what kind? Pot? Ritalin every 4 hrs. to keep on track? Studying CFA on Adderall? Maybe for taking the GMAT? Gonna pop a Valium or Xanax before networking events or interviews? Some depression pills- Wellbutrin maybe? or maybe you're too stressed out to sleep without Ambien? Something else?
How often? Why? I'm curious about psych medication among high finance professionals. Considering the stress, high ambition and burn-outs.
drinking helps me tolerate life
Never had ritalin/vibance/coffee/energy drinks during SA stint or finals weeks. Masochism is the ultimate motivator. Mind over matter.
Coffee and Whiskey.
I'm more than a decade in; seen it all. You better bet I'm a firm believer in chemical assistance as needed.
Nothing heavy. Just small and steady. This life is not natural; you occasionally need a little something to get you through.
Liquor and caffeine play starring roles, but obviously that's not all. I don't have a single peer that is verifiably all-natural all the time. I have many, many peers that I know for certain are not.
I can also name the top three substances of almost anyone I've worked with a week or longer; used to do it as a party trick back before I got to a level where such tomfoolery was not acceptable. Any strong shit that acts primarily on your central nervous system leaves a signature that those in the know can perceive. Of course, if you're in the know, you're not exactly clean yourself. So we tend to keep our mouths shut.
My advice from ten years of experience; always have a scrip and a doctor's supervision, and never abuse or alter the format. Prodrugs and precursor drugs are there to keep us from going off the deep end. Do not snort. Do not double up. Treat being clean as a luxury; be clean whenever you think you can get away with it Stay clean for as long as you can. Use only when it means additional dollars in your pocket.
Most importantly: be 100% clean by thirty. Take my fucking word for that.
