I don't watch baseball, so can anyone tell me what this is all about? Does Jeter do that every time he goes up to bat in a way of saying that he respects the pitcher or something?
It's just a habitual thing he does every time he goes up to bat, almost like a ritual. The other people in the video are tipping their hat as a sign of respect for Jeter.
The ritual thing in baseball is ridiculous. Especially when they have to redo it every single time for every single pitch.
I also confused him with A-Rod and was wondering why everyone would be tipping their hat to some one that does stuff the MLB has banned. Now it all makes sense.
if your familiar with the NHL, you'll know the rituals there are 10 times as absurd haha. Just go look up Jimmy Howard's pregame ritual, it's weird as shit.
Oh I know all about their pregame things, but that's all done pre game. I don't have to sit there and watch someone adjust their elbow straps 10 times before the puck drops when they take a faceoff. I know one goalie will sit there in the corner and shoot a puck at the camera hole until he makes it through.
yea thats true. some players have rituals before face offs (kopitar skating backwards to face off dot before opening face off), others have specific paths they walk before entering the dressing room (lidstrom walked under the bleachers before getting dressed for the game). I personally think it's cool, and you're correct in saying that rarely do these rituals interrupt game play or cause delays.
I like all the pre game things. It really goes to show that even though these are the best players in the world, they still think that without doing those things they won't be on their game.
I wonder what it's like for them post retirement when they skate for fun with their kids or something if they still do their superstitious acts because I know that Osgood, McCarty and Draper would sometimes show up at a local rink in Metro Detroit and just play drop in hockey randomly.
Are you from Detroit or just a Detroit fan? You seem to know quite a bit about their superstitions to just be a casual fan ;)
Incredible tribute to a legend. I'm a Mets fan (though not one of those anti-Yankees Mets fans), but I have so much respect for Derek Jeter.
I actually haven't been to the city proper in a while. I usually spend my time in Michigan with family but this would be an offer that I wouldn't refuse and I barely even like baseball. haha
haha, I dont go down too often but I always jump at the opportunity. Can't go wrong with a free baseball game though, I wouldnt be complaining haha.
For sure! You can't ever turn down free! Plus the added benefits of going with a players girlfriend! lol
I need to get a hookup for Rangers games out here! It costs me 300+ each game between tickets + Beer during the games. Going to a game at the Joe if I spent 300 dollars I'd have parking, seats on the glass, and enough food to feed me for a week haha
Lol baseball
I thought Joe Buck was going to suck off Jeter in the clubhouse after the game last night. As a non-yankees fan, that game was brutal.
agreed, but it was still cool to see the level of respect the fans and players gave Jeter. Joe Buck is a shitty announcer though, I cant stand him.
He sets off my gaydar like an alarm.
I'm not into this respect the other player like a demi-god thing (mbavsmfin, brady ref), I thought the Nike commerical was toolish and Wainwright purposely giving him a pitch to hit was completely pathetic. Maybe, I'm old school but I'd rather see a pitcher peg him Bob Gibson style for bringing too much attention to himself.
