For professional traders in the industry: do you believe VR is potentially applicable to your day job?

Would you be willing to port your entire trading interface inside a single VR headset?

Your Bloomberg and Reuters terminal, your valuation model, your chat feeds, your live p&l reports etc. all at the tips of your voice commands and fingertips in VR space. Add as many functional feeds as convenient.

Are you in charge of running a desk? See all positions and inventory of all your traders (individually and combined as a desk) in real time right in front of you side-by-side. Spot any problems before they materialize into P&L hit. Conference call any team member or sales person or client fund through virtual windows inside the VR at any time.

See any economic/financial data in a highly visual 3D interface to improve your decision making.

If your job will not be eaten by AI algorithms in the foreseeable future, do you see your trading job being done increasingly from a different interface such as VR? Alternatively, are you entirely happy with your current arrangement of things at work?

Any experienced-based advice and input will be greatly appreciated.

For context, a lot of banks just stopped using office 2003 within the past ~3 years.

Call me cynical but...

Good luck convincing business management on the need to invest in new peripherals, compliance to understand any technology younger than 5 years, IT to figure out all the wires, and senior traders to not laugh you off the floor.

Maybe the sales guys will use it for client calls or something.

While I appreciate the importance of UI, I think there are much lower hanging fruit to pick in our industry than presentation/UI/use of VR.

Sure, if such interface works, is more usable and introduces actual productivity improvements, rather than cosmetic bells 'n whistles, I'd be happy to consider it. However, like I said, there are much bigger and more important battles to be fought in our space, IMHO.

Would you mind giving me a few pointers? What more obvious and more pertinent pain points are you guys experiencing at the moment? My background is in desk research and structuring rather than trading, so I am having difficult time guessing. This is an honest question. Will be grateful for any info.

Stay curious
