You don't. BBs simply don't take freshmen on as interns (maybe there are a few extreme cases when crazy intellectual brilliance and/or nepotism was involved.) Try to get a PWM internship instead.
Reach out to friends or relatives and try to find something in Asset Management or maybe boutique IB. You can get something if you try hard enough.
I could be mistaken but my understanding of the regional BB offices in Dallas is that the teams are fairly lean across the board, but of course that is generalization. As a a freshman, do not expect much in the way of a formal internship.
BB IBD internships don't exist here. The only major BB group here is JPM and they are a tiny group. Unless you've got wicked family connections you are SOL even looking at other cities. As a freshman, go for whatever you can get. Commercial Banking/PWM/whatever You'll be fine later on down the road.

Hey y'all,
I'm a freshman at SMU. Does anybody know any PWM's or boutiques I can cold-call for an internship this summer? I'm targeting anything related to Finance.
Thank you!
For PWM try your local Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo advisors, Merrill lynch, etc. This really isn't too difficult. Boutique IBD? I can't really offer any insight on this because for one you are a freshman (Most summer analysts are soon to be seniors) and 2. they really don't have huge SA groups like a BB. Just do some networking with those in boutique IBD on linkedin or alumni etc. They can probably give some good feedback if they're not too busy.
Instead of cold calling visit the offices of some companies on Preston Road you might find out something. Tolleson Capital, TBP Capital, etc.
And honestly use your SMU social network to get a position man I knew a kid who used to go to SMU (switched to UTDallas) and he told me his social network consisted of 19 year olds driving Ferraris with CEO fathers. With a network like that you're a person or two away from getting a position.
Join the entrepreneurial and finance oriented clubs on campus and you are certified to meet people who know people. This is 10 times as effective as cold calling. These kind of clubs are also where the most serious/career oriented undergrads are.
Good luck.
Yeah I had heard about how affluent the area is. SMU really does have a lot of great business alums.
Freshman Summer Internship in Dallas (Originally Posted: 03/14/2015)
Hello fellow monkeys,
I am an incoming sophomore in Ross wondering how to get a summer internship (even unpaid) in Dallas, Texas while also possibly taking summer classes. I have looked through many similar posts, but I believe that my situation is different.
These are some of my concerns: Is it too late for an internship? I attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan but I want an internship in Dallas because I might also be taking summer classes at a nearby community college. Plus, I want to be able to return home everyday. To get an internship, even an unpaid PWM internship, I would have to go back to Dallas to interview. There is no way I can keep going back to Dallas for interviews while I am currently taking a heavy course load in college. How do I manage an internship and summer classes since the classes will most likely be during the day?
I know this will be my last free summer, but I want to still remain competitive as I know many freshmen intern over the summer.
Thank you so much!
No it's not too late. Reference all of the other posts on this topic for how to obtain one. If you're out of town plenty of places will happily do a phone interview. Chances are whatever position you find as a freshman will be pretty informal. How do you manage classes and internship simultaneously? Well it depends on the internship but if you have a full-time internship during the day you obviously can't take classes during the day.
I do not think your situation is terribly different than the many others that have been posted here before.
During the summer, when would it be late to get an unpaid internship in PWM or other financial industries?
