Friends & Social Life after Graduation

Interested to hear about everyone's social experiences after graduation.

I am finding it increasingly harder to make decent relationships after college. Most of the friends I had during college days have moved abroad/other cities/lost contact and ended up with a fairly small amount of remaining people in my circle, some of who I lost interest in maintaining a close relationship with and some who have been busier due to their work schedules, new girlfriends, family and things like that.

I still have a lot of people that I can hang out with, people I can enjoy a drink with or go clubbing every now and then but I rarely hang out with them otherwise they'd bore me to death, these are not people that I would never open up to or call when in need of help, they are just "call if youre bored" relationships. Here's the reasons why I am finding it more and more difficult to make actual friendships after college:

  • Since I live in a country filled with expats, it seems like everyone out there is just looking for his own benefit. It is hard to open up to somebody without feeling they might have ulterior motives or without thinking they can use it against you in the future. Everyone's ready to do whatever it takes to avoid going back home on the next plane. Maintaining a job is essential for your Visa and people are ready to make sure you get laid off if the company is in a tight situation to make their positions more relevant. All that environment is toxic and makes it even harder to make friends at work.

  • Since I have a gf for more than 2 years, I am not anymore part of the let's get laid this weekend club, that means I am not so excited anymore to go to clubs/parties, get drunk and flirt with women and all that shit, which makes me a bit "boring" and which also makes me think of people who still do that stuff as boring. Especially that I used to party every damn night during college, I am so over this.

  • I hate Drama and stuff like that. People my age (24) seem to still love drama, analyzing every text, move or whatever someone said about them or someone else, why they said it and texting that story around to a larger group of people & you know this kinds of drama. This is what I hate the most and makes me stay away from a lot of people. I hate people who love to collectively solve their personal problems. I prefer discussing whatever is happening in the news, markets, science rather than why Sara called X a slut. or why that girl didn't text him back, ffs.

  • Since I am very focused on achieving some success for myself down the line, I love to spend time with people who can share something meaningful with me, teach me something new or have a genuine debate over coffee with someone. I love people who can teach me something new and that I can in turn share something new with them. I dont care if we're discussing physics, journalism or finance. I thought that Im gonna meet a lot of passionate people at work that can teach me a lot of things about life. thats wrong. work is filled with people who cant wait till they punch out and dont give a fuck about learning anything new as long as it doesnt affect their paychecks.

  • I play Tennis and go to the Gym quite often, so dont suggest I join a club with activities that I like doing. I have enough Tennis/Gym buddies.

As this is already a lot, I'll stop here and share the rest in another post maybe,

So tell me about your experiences, have you been finding it hard to make decent friendships after college? and why?

Dude, Dubai sucks pretty much for those reasons mentioned above. I've noticed that life's so superficial there. That being said, I believe it's very easy to find other people who feel just about the same way as you do. Try hitting them up and meeting.
