From Management Consulting to Goldman Sachs?
This does NOT involve me, but my cousin works at a (non-MBB) management consulting firm who wants to move to Goldman for prestige purposes.
Is this possible for them? What division should they apply to if any?
Without going the MBA route, probably anything middle to back office, more ops focused.
If they go to a top business school it will not be hard to make the move to Goldman Sachs. Surprisingly easy, actually.
they have an MBA from NYU
For "prestige purposes?"
Your "cousin" sounds like a tool
Well Prestige = Money doesn't it?
Long-term probably, short-term no. Actually a lot of prestige firms UNDERPAY, because they know their brand on your resume has value, so they pay less to new hires.
I'm really curious about this: why do people come into WSO to ask questions for a "cousin" or a friend? Why not just refer said friend or family relation to the website? Or do friends and family ask the college age poster a career related question, they say let me get back to you and come here to seek advice and answer the question?
It's an anonymous board so it's not like asking the question to your buddies at a bar. "Hey bros, I have a "friend" who urinates fire. Not a burning sensation, we're talking melting the fucking urinal and setting off fire alarms. What do you think my friend should do?"
So what kind of position @ Goldman should she apply for?
She doesn't know anything about this website and doesn't care to join. Will someone just answer the question?
It is literally impossible. It has never and will never happen.
I already answered this in the second post. And if she doesn't know what middle to back office positions are, then she has no chance.
