From prop/ HFT firms to BB investment banks
Hi All,
The question is simple, how likely is it/ often for guys from HFT and prop trading firms get hired onto trading desks at bulge bracket investment banks.
Thanks

Career Resources
You're talking about getting into a highly competitive and sought after position that not only has customary hiring from programs, but pretty infrequently has openings on the career sites if you check them. So yeah... Hard I would say.
Hope that answers this.
Do you know of anyone that has made the move?
Oh yeah I'm sure people have definitely man (a friend is currently at a market making/prop firm and had hedge fund interviews). If you're good enough at your job and networking, there is legit nothing that can stop you. Its just not something that happens by seeing it every day on a career site. You have to put a load of work in to get the results.
moving from prop to BB trading (Originally Posted: 07/16/2011)
So a long time ago I had made many applications during my initial job hunt. I landed a prop job and have been working there for a little bit - then all of the sudden I find myself interviewing at a final round for a BB. Should I mention I've been working the prop job? Would this lessen my chances of making the cut in any way? Or would it help?
It's not on your resume..?
no, because i was accepted to the prop job after submitting my resume to the bank.. and then the bank got back to me after ive been working for a while
From unknown Prop Trading to BB (Originally Posted: 04/25/2012)
Can anybody help me. I have a job offer in a prop firm ( relatively unknown not in New York City) they said that I will be in a R&D testing new strategies for futures and options for two years on minimum wages before making the big money. The question is would I be able to switch to BB (oil or currency) trading desk later on. I am not from target and my background is physics. Any help or suggestions please. I will be locked for 2 years when I finished in 2008 it was very bad for employment.
Sounds like you will be working at a sweatshop. Very difficult to transition from a place like that to a BB unless you network your butt off and get lucky. Your best bet is to develop solid skillsets and knowledge and try to go to a top prop firm after 2 years.
