Is juggling two internships simultaneously bad?
Hi,
I'm a freshman at a non-target, and currently have two internship offers. One is a remote working internship at a boutique IB, and the other is cold calling at a large bank's wealth management devision. The second one will not be remote. I'm wondering, will it look bad on my resume if I do both this summer (as in, it decreases the value of both since it seems like neither one is "time intensive" enough)
.......I did, and worked another job as well. You'll get some strange looks when you interview in the future but it makes for interesting conversation: some people really don't understand the concept of hustling. Someone comes to me with two jobs/internships at once on their resume and I refer them straight to the hiring manager.
I strongly agree. People who have been through the hustle or are hustling usually have exceptionally strong work ethic, as they understand the hardwork underlying it.
what the hell is a remote internship for IB? sounds like a scam but what do i know
The farther away you get from formalized BB programs, the structure of almost everything becomes more negotiable.
Interesting kind of makes sense I guess
I say go for it. It'll give you a good story to discuss at a future interview and shows that you have a particular work ethic. Plus based on the descriptions you put out it would appear that doing both is quite doable with good management.
Thanks for the responses guys, it seems that there's a pretty good consensus on juggling both internships, which is what I hope to do. However, when I'm informing both parties of my plans, do you think there could be a potential problem with one side arguing that it's a conflict of interest?
This could possibly be a huge conflict of interest?
I would imagine the boutique IB will make you sign an NDA and outside business practice disclosure - thus limiting what you can do when you're not doing their work. Pretty hard to legitimately defend being "behind the wall" with an IB while simultaneously working on the public side with PWM. I would imagine, for legal issues, both firms will deny you the opportunity to do both. But I could be wrong.
Full time Intership + another part time Internship at once (Originally Posted: 08/26/2015)
Hi guys,
Hopefully someone can be of help. My goal is to get into a summer internship program in IBD or consulting next year.
I'm currently in the position where I have done a 5month industrial placement in back office in a bank. This was university interlinked, i.e. graded etc. Now, I have also worked as a part time intern in a start-up for 10 weeks. My work there included building pitchbooks, assisting with general strategy and financial models among other things. I pretty much worked 70-80 hours a week, doing the start-up work on weekends and late evenings. I realized very quickly that the back office job will not help me in any way so I was quite desperate for a more related experience that I could put on my CV.
Anyhow, my question is the following. Should I put both on my CV and if so, should I indicate that the startup internship was part-time. I don't want any red flags to come across when HR reads my CV. Will this give me an advantage? Any advice would be appreciated.
