Fund Accounting Analyst to Finance

Hello Monkeys,

Recently I started with one of the biggest mutual funds as a fund accounting analyst because it was the only offer before graduation. I went to a non-target state school in TX, majored in Finance and finished with a 2.78. I cover 11 mutual funds but I mainly do accounting reconciliation and grunt work which has nothing to do with my degree or my passion. I want to get into investment analysis (HF/VC/PE) and then later into portfolio management or maybe even corporate finance so I plan to take the CFA 1 in June’15. I plan to stick around with this company till the summer of 2015 and jump to a better ship hoping the CFA 1 will open better doors along with networking. How should I strategize my plan because I am not being challenged in my current role and it’s an entry level fund accounting analyst positions which is not interesting at all. Appreciate the honest advice.

Thanks,
A fellow monkey.
