FX Sales - what's next the grow/exit opportunities?
Hello friends!
I've been doing FX Flow business and a little bit of derivatives in several big international banks. FX corp Sales. (I'm not in US). I mostly communicate with local clients and local treasuries of multinational corps.
I have around 5-6 years of experience in this field. Trying to do more derivatives, but market here is almost dead. Laterly more and more banks offer electronic trading platforms for corporates - so my bread and butter business of FX flow is dying prerrt fast. Now I start to think what will I do after 5 years when electronic platforms will completely conquer FX spot market.
My thoughts is to push more for derivatives knowledge and go deep in this field and stay in banking. Or to switch for a corporate treasury.
As of now I'm 28 without CFA and MBA. Total banking treasury experience around 6 years.
What do you think would be good to do in this situation in nearest future in terms of self-development and growth?
you look like prime layoff material. you add no value. figure out a way to add value...probably by learning new skills
Depends on your aptitude....can you code, or are you capable of learning? Are you quanty? Can you expand your customer base to include customers that are more active in your market?
Can you be "more fun than the other guy" when entertaining, to induce your clients to trade more with you? (i know the old head of sales at my old firm who was famous for getting customers to ask to be covered by him...because he was so much fun as an entertainer...they would actually say "i want ROB to cover me if you want me to trade with your firm"....and these were very large accounts). I don't know you...or what you are capable of....you should seek advice from people who know you...friends & collegues etc..

I searched high and low and could not find the information I was looking for, so I'm hoping someone could shed some light on this subject.
I'm currently at a boutique Research shop on the sales side. At the moment I am in a support role, however, am expecting to be placed onto the actual Sales desk by the time April rolls around. That was, until my boss told me some news that is going to hold me back for an undisclosed amount of time.
A friend of a friend of a friend and I have been in touch for years (very infrequently) and he is a director of institutional sales at a large Forex shop (think FXDD, something along those lines). He has asked that we meet for a drink and talk shop. I, however, can not for the life of me find any information on how sales work at a place like this. Would this be a step in the wrong direction for my career? What can one expect in this type of role? I'm obviously getting ahead of myself here, however, I would like to know if this move would be a good idea considering where I am in my career. Looking forward to hearing back from you guys/gals!
