Is GoBuyside a joke?
Guys - just want to get your thoughts on Gobuyside, I haven't used them extensively before. Have gotten their previous updates on recruiting and comp survey and stuff here and there. Other than that, I haven't applied to much positions on their website.
Recently, there have been a couple postings that sparked my interest and I applied or showed my interest to the individual that's representing the opportunity. I then get a reply back saying I fit the profile and would be interested in a follow-up call.
But 5 out of 5 different opportunities, they NEVER follow up for a call or send follow up email even when I sent follow-ups asking for a time that suits them. What the hell is wrong with these people? Are they that just un-professional? Given what they have on their website and what they are showing, it seems legit but actual interaction i have with them has actually been brutal and a waste of time.
Keep in mind these individuals were all different, it's not like it was the same individual. Which makes me think their mandate is just not sending the best candidate in to the actual company, but rather just collecting a bunch of CVs and sending them in and seeing what sticks.
Any thoughts, positive or other negative experience out there?
Who have you spoken to from them?
I have had good experiences with them. They are very much like any headhunter/recruiter. They will aggressively pursue you if you fit the profile and are genuinely interested...if you don't, good luck getting any type of response.
I would say labeling them a joke is a tad harsh (would argue they are better than some other firms), but they basically are most useful for candidates they believe will have the best chance to progress far through a process and meets profile criteria to almost a tee.
I have not had any success with them in the past but I am coming from a unique path at this point in my career. I am sure other people can attest to their experiences with them.
I would add that GoBuyside is a bit more rude than other recruiters. These guys just won't even respond to certain bankers, whereas at least other recruiters are polite enough to respond even if they won't help you get interviews. But the fact that GoBuyside doesn't even have the courtesy to respond to emails at all is pretty slimy on their part.
totally agree here. never had direct experience with them but have heard from my friends that are on the buyside (not just on sellside) looking to lateral not even get responses even if the recruiters at GoBuyside were the ones that actually reached out to see if they were interested first! very rude and unprofessional on their part
i'm an experienced PE associate, have applied to maybe 50+ postings, emailed them several times, and have received zero replies.
As a quant, I'm used to awful recruiters. I regularly get messages on LinkedIn from recruiters who say something like "We are looking for an excellent candidate who has 8 years of experience in technology X" when "technology X" has only existed for 6 years...
Also, so many recruiters will say "Even if you are not looking for new opportunities at this time, I would still love to chat to hear about your background." Occasionally when the opportunity sounds interesting I will respond to this and say that I am not looking at the moment but the opportunity looks like something I would pursue in 6-12 months potentially. Have never heard back.
Don't want to say recruiters are fundamentally unprofessional or bad people but they are in a shit business I must say.
On the flip side, the recruiters who bring a humane touch and are actually value-additive to both parties in the recruiting process stand out for how rare they are.
From my experience (both as a candidate, someone at a firm that relied on headhunters, and somebody who's personally engaged headhunters) the rate feels like it's below 5%. When you find them though, you love them, they make your life really easy. Quick, clean processes plus all kinds of intel and off-market color from both their cumulative experience and their current grip on the pulse.
