Bloomberg Certification Question

First, I want to say I know how much alot of people on here believe that getting Bloomberg Certified is somewhat useless. I agree to an extent, because it does seem easy to pick up.

My question to you all is, although you are going to say its not worth it, where and how can I access a terminal in NYC where I can create MY OWN LOGIN and have at least somewhat unrestricted access to a terminal and complete my certification as well as play with the database.

Not only do I want to be able to say I know the system in an interview, but I personally enjoy working with the system from what I have seen thus far.

Bloomberg Educational Program

While many users below emphasize that the program is not very valuable for your resume or for a career in investment banking - our users shared some advice regarding the program below.

How to Find a Bloomberg Terminal

You should always check the local universities to see which schools have terminals to access. In many cases - if you can get into the building you will be able to access the terminal. If not - you can get in and ask / pay a student to give you their login for the computer and then you can create a login.

User @buybuybuy", an asset management analyst, offered advice about how to get to a terminal:

buybuybuy - Asset Management Analyst:
My university had several. They were unrestricted as long as you could make it into the building. Find out if your friends' universities have some terminals and ask them to let you in.

User @arbarb11" explained that the NYU libraries in NYC have access to the terminals (as of July 2011).

User @leveRAGE.", an equity research analyst, shared:

leveRAGE - Equity Research Analyst:
As long as you know the system you can say you're certified. Nobody will ask for a certificate. It doesn't even show financial acumen, just the ability to watch videos and take a quiz...

Shortcut to Find the Bloomberg Certification

Yignificant:
Type BESS in order to access the certification courses on the terminal

User @IncapableChimp", an investment banking analyst, explained that the course is helpful but should not be put on your resume.

IncapableChimp - Investment Banking Analyst:
Do the certification to learn how to use the terminals but I would not list it on your resume as some form of differentiator. It provides an incredibly basic knowledge of the terminals and I've heard various bankers say they don't respect it as a "certification" at all. It is a handy talking point in interviews to show you have some experience of the terminals, but it doesn't by any means make you "qualified" (i.e. Bloomberg Educational Program)

Not worth it no one GAF

IF you read my post....you'd have known that I don't GAF, that no one GAF. Yes, I do want to do it to put on a resume, but also be able to be conversant in it, not just put it on there and also for my own personal gain.

So if your gonna post at all just gimme some good feedback, beacuse I already acknowledged that most people on here and even on Wall Street don't GAF.

Step 1) google Bloomberg Essentials quiz answers Step 2) copy answers to terminal Step 3) earn a "certificate" to operate bloomberg (most I-banks could give a hoot for this credential, if you can even call it that)

It's kind of like a high school diploma, everyone should probably have it but it doesn't really do much. Because it is free while you are at college just get it done & get it on your resume.

everyone should have it like a high school diploma? seriously?

i haven't touched bloomberg in banking.
