Give me TV or give me death?
Am I the only one who thinks that Television is for stupid people? As Lloyd Blankfein once said "TV is chewing gum for the eyes" So really pointless right? But millions watch everyday for long hours and it's really almost an obsession with basically.....anyone who has access to it.What are your thoughts?
FYI:I watched TV up until I was 13 and didn't know any better than I realized it was a waste of time watching reruns and just straight out stupid shows with really nothing to offer but cheap laughs.
Blankfien doesn't have a heart and the only thing that keeps me sane after a long week of work is stupid shit on Netflix.
dont watch TV but im a movie buff.... love getting into the story. Just saw Thor 2, it was good!
I haven't watched TV in 9 years. TV takes up a monumental amount of time. Hell, never needing to deal with the cable company is probably worth it alone. It made a HUGE difference once I quit. It sucks when everyone around me is making Breaking Bad references but I just find other ways to relate.
That's pretty awesome, I admire that move. I gave up fast food completely about 9 years ago and haven't missed it one bit.
A few questions for you:
Do you not watch any live sports? I am a big sports fan so I would need to watch games.
Are you in a relationship? I cannot imagine what my gf and I would do together if we never watched any TV whatsoever on weekday nights particularly. We do read a good amount but that's anti-social. I love surfing the web during free time but she eventually kicks me off the computer. Just wondering.
Exactly my point I hadn't thought about TV much up until recently when "Breaking Bad" became the shit to watch I had absolutely no idea it even existed, but then again those who talked about it weren't as great as me.
I've found TV is the best way for me to shut my brain off.
havent watched the tv in years, hate the commercials and having to watch some random nonsense from time to time... its a huge time waste and i dont think one gets much from watching it at all... even if you are watching some educational stuff, i think you can just skip 90% of the content or pick a better info at the internet
if i was watching it, it would be for some specific tv shows or something that i like
... which is something i can do that from my pc, and i am watching few tv shows at the moment i find an online stream once in a while for UFC or sth.. or i simply attend some events or go to cinema etc.
I threw my TV out two years ago and haven't looked back. Sure, I miss watching football, soccer, etc. live from the comfort of my own couch, but watching it is something I can do at a local pub or a friends place. Don't miss a single tvshow or a documentary. All of that is something I can watch online when I want and at a fraction of the cost of cable.
Of course, my friends and gf think I am an idiot for not having a tv. Got to say, it clears up a lot of space in my schedule and living room.
Broad generalization is for stupid people.
Only thing I've watched on live tv for the past few years is live sports events. I do watch TV series but only "on demand" when I'm bored out of my skull or in bed or with someone. Sitting there channel hopping and watching the best piece of shit you can find is such a waste of time.
Live sports is the last thing keeping me connected to cable.
Here is a clip from an episode that aired less than a week ago, that I thought was not only relevant to this thread but kind of a brilliant scene...sometimes television surprises you.
I was in a relationship for a long time. She was international though and didn't really watch much TV. We did dinner out a lot or she did work while I surfed WSO. I also played on recreational soccer teams so twice a week our activity was going to my matches.
"I haven't watched TV in X years" ...only sports and series or not at home...
So you watch TV.... I highly doubt anyone in this thread hasn't watched TV in 1 year, let alone more. Whether it be somewhere else or not, it is still TV...
I will agree that streaming series on your laptop is pretty much the exact same thing.
What are you going to do in retirement if you don't know how to operate a TV?
choke the chicken til it croaks
I don't watch TV for more than an hour a week (Shark Tank). Everyone thinks I'm crazy for it.
